Jerome J. Forman

The Graphic History of Antisemitism is heartbreaking, riveting, ugly and beautifully captures the antisemitism of the modern era. The author Jerome Forman does this through the use of postcards, pamphlets, comics, newsletters and other propaganda. The material is alternatively shocking and numbing in its presentation;. For me The Old Mother Hubbard rhymes brought tears as did the pages and pages of postcards showing Jews as dirty, money grubbing, stupid, lazy, conniving and traitorous. The layout itself is clear and clean. Mr Forman was a civil rights lawyer and although he does not make explicit connections to other groups in the body of the work (he does in the introduction) it is especially poignant, at this time of racial turmoil, that similar stereotypes are being aimed at African-Americans. It ends with a plea for justice and peace yet at this moment it is hard to even imagine.
