Tirey L. Ford

The title is apt. This is romantic 1920's language at its floweriest. A history of California from the first Spanish explorers up through 1926. The best chapters were those describing Monterey, Carmel and Pacific Grove in the 20's. The rest of the story was repetitive, highly romanticized and boring. It is possible that someone who has never read the history of California would find it interesting, but the way the author portrays the native population and even the Spaniards is offensive at best, delusional is more likely. Sorry, I cannot give an impersonal review, I really didn't like it and will not keep it even though it has some collector value.… (plus d'informations)
