The topic of compilers is so vast that no compiler textbook should endeavor to be comprehensive. This textbook does not make that mistake; it maintains a very consistent focus and organization. Consequently, it omits some topics entirely; this is a virtue.

Most algorithms are presented using CLR style pseudocode; this choice gives the textbook a precision and rigor found in no other compiler textbook.

The book examines parsing in considerable depth; the analogy of bottom-up parsing to knitting is priceless.

This is the best compiler textbook I have ever encountered; others may be more prestigious, but they are typically also more diffuse.
