I have to admit, the setting of this novel is what first intrigued me. I grew up on the Oregon Coast and spent many a summer running through the bay-town streets Christine offers in her novel Tip of Bone. The setting, tone and environmental philosophy in her book demonstrates her close relationship with the area and her understanding of the concerns regarding development on the Oregon Coastline; thus, giving her protagonist Maya Rivers a “non-character” credibility. Maya feels real.
Maya Rivers moves to Newport, Oregon, to start life “fresh.” When her brother is indicated in a crime and no one rises to defend him, she sorts out the clues, follows the trail, until she begins to worry someone is following her. Christine’s skill in offering a good puzzle kept me reaching for the next page, and the twist at the end…
