My Rating 4.5 stars

Sebastian allows other peoples opinions to dictate his actions and his sense of self. Past hurts, slights and bias give him a warped sense of self-worth. Not bitter but heartbroken none the less, he decides to fight back. It boggles my mind that he would want the one person who was determined to think the worse of him at every turn. No one else's opinion mattered but hers. Katherine didn't deserve him. I learned one thing from Virtuous Scoundrel. "Actions speak louder than words." Sebastian proved he had more class in his little finger than any rich titled peer. He chose to forgive rather than retaliate. I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review.

This story was indeed a romp- with recalcitrant children, a wig-wearing grand-dame of an aunt, a crooked castle, and a runaway pig, not to mention a hero and heroine who have nothing at all in common except their desire to steer clear of one another. As Astrid learns her judgement isn't infallible and Montford learns his perfect life isn't a life at all, they battle well-meaning friends and an evil-minded suitor before finally finding their way together. This book introduced a colorful cast of characters and had some genuine laugh-out-loud moments. I for one enjoyed it enough to seek out others in the series.½

"4.5 out of 5 stars!! The Duke of Montford (Montford, Monty, Cyril) received his title at the age of four after a tragic, and traumatizing, carriage accident that killed his parents. Because of that he has grown accustomed to things being a certain way (now he has major OCD) and receiving instant respect or at least subservience from his peers and lesser. However, with his nuptials upcoming, to a woman he chose for her good breeding, he wants all of his loose ends finished. Therefore, when he finds out that his “enemy” Mr. Honeywell has been dead for the past year, which means their families’ 200-year-old contract is now null and void; Montford plans to find out what is going on with the property/brewery that he owns because of that contract. Yet, he never expected to be so vexed, attracted, and turned around by a fiery redhead who is determined to keep things run her way no matter what.

This novel is a RIOT!! Intriguing, silly, steamy, and with many plot twists … you’ll be addicted from the first page. I could not get enough of this novel and its quirky characters. Watching them fall off their own personal pedestals is quite hilarious.

This is one hot and steamy historical romance..."

Yes!!!
After reading the first book in this series i could hardly wait for this one. I loved it, not as much as the first one but it was still a fantastic book.
Maggie Fenton has a way of infusing wit and humor in her books that make it so hard to stop reading. Enjoyed seeing Astrid and the ever funny Aunt Annabel, cant wait to read about Marlowe.

THANKS TO NETGALLERY FOR THIS ADVANCED READER'S COPY½

Fastidious meets mayhem!

Potentially a hoot, this falls a tad short of the promise the plot contains.
I like the Duke of Montford despite his many idiosyncrasies.
'He has always been fastidious'. ..and as the story develops we find out more about that!
Astrid Honeywell, fiery independent being that she is, is married to the family myth (an archaic contract surrounding the family holdings ownership) and the family business, Honeywell Ale. Astrid is just a little too over the top, but her heart is true.
The Duke (known as the Monk behind his back) is an obsessive compulsive who has to have order in all things at any cost. And yes, when the Monk meets the Misfit (Astrid) all hell breaks loose!
When Montford's man of business tells him that the current male occupier of Rylestone Hall has been dead for over a year, little did Montford know that with 'that simple statement disorder nay even chaos' would enter his life!
I do like Montford's irrepressible friends from his Harrow schooldays, Marlowe and Sherbrooke. Each as eccentric in their own way as Montford. (Ah, the English school system, apparently producing unerringly friendships that never fail to puzzle!)
Some interesting incidences and some not so believable.
Despite my few misgivings, I look forward to the rest of the series.

A NetGalley ARC
