Strange book which attempts to begin the "dialogue" for normal Americans to help change the course of the Iraq War, c. 2007. Egland hopes to energize Pentagon, Green Zone Brass and Politicians to become quicker at responding to the needs of troops in the field. The book is now obsolete as the US has removed all its "combat troops" from Iraq. The book is interesting for the tidbits of info about life in Iraq. Unfortunately it comes from the point of view of "Intel" to be assimilated and generalized to abstraction by after action reportage. There are criticisms about how the military has operated thus far to 2007 but nothing showing an earnestness about future accountability. The book's goal is to have people in the US write the news media, White House officials and local politicians to help shame them into helping secure the needed tools (cell phones, IPods, digital cameras) and resources (human Intell, UAVs, better body armor) to lift troop morale to finish the job. This was a well meaning book but it felt too much like a public relations gambit of self promotion.… (plus d'informations)
