I liked this book a bit, but it's definitely not the kind of book I enjoy. The plot is interesting (love triangle of sorts) but there was just a bit too much 'sensibility' for me. I love my thrills and emotional rollercoasters, but the harping on about Julia's 'fine feelings' was a bit much, even for a book about, basically, teen/early adult love. To me, it lacked the fun and social commentary of Fanny Burney's or Jane Austen's books to contrast with the incredibly emotional, overwrought scenes.

The heroine is great (though her best friend is almost TOO good to be true)and it's an interesting look into a complicated situation but if you ever wished Emily St. Aubert would stop staring out the window at the Pyrenees and get on with saving herself, you will probably feel that way about this book as well.
