A very interesting look at the life and career of Air Chief Marshal Sir Trafford Leigh-Mallory. Details his early life, a bit on his brother George Mallory,who died on Everest and the WWI career's of both brothers, but it concentrates mostly on his service during WWII. It does a good job of defending both his professional decisions (Big Wing's)as it does defending his reputation as an architect of Allied victory in north-west Europe. Both the success of the air operations over Dieppe (the only successful part of the operation) and his choice of targets (railways and bridges) is shown and I believe demonstrated. He was very critical of Montgomery in Normandy but still had a good working relationship with him. I think the book concentrates too much on his diary entry's which after a while can get repetitive. If your interested in the early RAF, the Big Wing controversy, D-Day preparation or the Air Campaign waged over Normandy this is a book you should read.… (plus d'informations)
