From colophon: “Set in 10 point A.T.F. Caslon 471 by Muir Dawson and printed on a royal octavo Albion, U.S.C., August 1967.��? Muir Dawson was named after Sierra Club Founder, John Muir. Muir Dawson and his brother Glen were partners in the management of Dawson’s Bookshop, inherited from their father Ernest. Both brothers were fixtures at the store, with Muir developing particular expertise in the history of printing and in books dealing with Japanese prints, along with participating in many publishing ventures. As a distinguished bookseller and bibliophile, Muir served as president of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association and president of the Book Club of California. He died on Feb 21, 2005 at the age of 83. This book was given to me by Esther Beamer who received it as a gift from Muir Dawson himself. It explains why type faces, and paper, etc. are of interest to book dealers and collectors. Mrs. Beamer writes: “Muir came to Aspen [in] Dec. 1976-- Visited us-- Took him and boys to Red Onion for Dinner. This was sent as a thank-you gift. Very rare! Valuable.
