I feel kinda like this was a short story rather than a book. We really didn't get a feel for who Mattie and Julie are. Then all these other characters are thrown in and they're either fast friends or flames or enemies and know who Mattie is ..all while we know nothing.
I also got the feeling that this was written about a 22-year-old and they just changed it to be 45 because it doesn't really fit but that could also be because we didn't really get much of a backstory.
It was a good start though and interesting.

Genres: Book Rejected
1 Star

Quite frankly, I am mystified by all the 4 & 5 star reviews.

Whelp, I know I won't be reading any more of this series.

This book was....
Highly Repetitive.
Jumpy Scenes.....
& filled with a large variety of every type of editing errors.

It seems like the author couldn't decide where they wanted to go with the story, nor how to get there.

There are contradictions and large information gaps.

The romance and action is tenuous. Insubstantial. Flimsy.

With the high rating I thought it would be a decent read.
I was wrong.

I will repeat, I am Mystified by all the 4 & 5 star reviews!!!!!
One of the few times GR reviews let me down.

Fates & Mates is a collection of books that any paranormal lover would kill to read. There is something about these books that I greatly enjoyed but Carline and Sean, Ana and Logan, Hudson and Zola, and Sienna and Theo were my favorites! What will yours be?

A story for everyone

This charity anthology has a story for everyone; whether you like shifters, same-sex, mature or historical, you will find something to enjoy. Two dozen stories, and almost as many variations of second chances. This was a bit of a rush job and it shows in the need for editing, some tales more than others. My favourite stories include Aria Bliss' Renewing Hearts, part of her Watercress Falls series, and CK O'Connor's Once Burned, Twice Loved, appealing for Bake Off fans. I should also mention Lia Davis, Linzi Baxter, and RC Wynne, and for me, these five stories more than justified the cost.

Meet triplets Meda, Talla and Ami, they are the first vampire-lycan hybrids and each have the powers of both plus another one that few, if any know about. They have been sheltered all of their lives but it's time for college. so a school is built for them and other paranormals. But strange things began to happen to Meda, with friends acting like she isn't there, others who look here with either disgust or ignore her. She also doesn't realize she would find her mates(all 3 of them) plus she is loosing time by blacking out and one of her mates is starting to act funny also. Watch out for more witches, warlocks, vampires, lycons and demons. Find out more what happens and who is acting against her and those around her. This is great start to the Academy's Rise series and I'm excited about the next 2 books. I'm loving Lia Davis and I'm positive you will too.

Kane is going to be new King of the Vampires, but his mother won't let it go until he finds a mate. But he doesn't want just anybody, and mom wants him to choose the one person he feels that is his little sister. But one night Kane is shocked to find his one true mate Jillian but there's no way he can have. Because she is the daughter of the High Alpha, a Lycan princess, the only heir. Throw in the fact that she has other possible mates out there, someone who wants the Lycans and a Vampire war, those who don't want Kane and Jillian together and more. Put it together with danger, and things are getting hot and heavy, it makes a person want to keep reading and reading and more reading. Great start to a series

"5 out of 5 stars! All of Reese’s life she has been living in seclusion and on the run. She is half-demon after all. Than with her father trying to kill her staying hidden is necessary. But when a ghost finds her and brings her to men who might be able to help protect her, she finds the courage to take it upon herself to make a new future for them all. Now they just have to be sure to defeat their common enemy (her father) before he rips their lives apart even more...

Can I just say now what I’ve been thinking since I finished this novel ... which is, “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!” Why Ms. Davis, did you do this to me?! I am on Ms. Davis’ newsletter list and when she was pimping this novel ("Marked For Them") it left me REALLY intrigued. Therefore, I preordered it and was so excited on release day to get it ... then I completed this novel in about 12 hours (because of sleep and my family bugging me). Even so, I was unprepared for the ..."

~ 3.5 War's Passion Stars ~

War's Passion is book one in the Sons of War series by Lia Davis.

This is my first time reading Lia Davis and I have to say I enjoyed War's Passion enough to go out and pick up book two [b:Ashes of War|21935308|Ashes of War (Sons of War, #2)|Lia Davis|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1432780698s/21935308.jpg|41235218]. The author delivers an interesting spin on mythology, Demi-gods & goddesses, the Fates, and much more. I enjoyed the world building and concept created to weave an intricate tail.

We are given lots of information, but in a way that you don't feel bogged done with to much at once. The story moves along quickly. The romance is an insta-attraction, once the leads meet. Markus knows right away once laying eyes on Gwendolyn what she is to him. Gwendolyn doesn't understand yet why she is drawn to him, the same type of creature that caused her parents deaths.

Markus I enjoyed. He's got the whole Alpha Male Leader vibe going for him, plus he's a sexy dragon. I'm a sucker for dragons. I have to say I wasn't very impressed with Gwen. She is running away and always scared. She's wimpy, but does get herself together by the end.

Gwen and Markus relationship felt forced. The believability wasn't their for me. Even with the soul mate thing happening. I think this had to do with Gwen. She was lacking as a heroine for me, but also her dragon issues where over the top; with her going into a panic attack whenever she sees a dragon. So, for her to get over it and fall in love within 2 days with Markus, just wasn't believable.

I loved the secondary characters. All the brothers and of course the two lady's, one that is Gwen's sister and Ash who is a spy for the gods. The way the author weaves them into the story and also set's up two more potential mate hook ups, if they can figure everything out, was very much enjoyed. These secondary characters are what made me decide to continue and pick up the next book. I really want to see what happens with them.

War's Passion delivers lots of action, adventure, intriguing characters, and sexy dragon brothers. This was a good read and a nice start to the series.

~ 3 Artemis’s Hunt Stars ~

Artemis’s Hunt is a novella in the Sons of War series by Lia Davis. It should be read after [b:Ashes of War|21935308|Ashes of War (Sons of War, #2)|Lia Davis|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1432780698s/21935308.jpg|41235218].

This was a short, quick, and sweet read where we get to meet and learn about Ash’s parents.

Artemis is a goddess, but here we get to see a softer side. She has and will always love Evangelos. When these two finally sort out what happened. Artemis will do anything to rectify a wrong for the only man that holds her heart. We are also treated to some scourging hot scenes that get the blood flowing. The ending delivers a surprise boom shell too. I enjoyed getting to learn what happened to Artemis and Evangelos. Watching these two sort out the past and come together was a great treat.

This was a sweet novella to read.

~ 4 Ashes of War Stars ~

Ashes of War is book two in the Sons of War series by Lia Davis. We pick up a few weeks after [b:War's Passion|18275696|War's Passion (Sons of War, #1)|Lia Davis|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1432780548s/18275696.jpg|25744042] and continue in the fight agents Garrick.

Wow the plot thickens. We learn why Ash was sent to spy. We also learn a lot about Ty and the time he was tortured. During that time he lost a part of himself. The author did a great job building on the plot and characters. Their are so many surprises added into this story, that to talk about them, well would just spoil it for you, so all I can say is that I was going OMG and WOW with all the things revealed. We are also introduced to a few new characters that I look forward to reading more about.

As for the romance each couples romance builds in each novel, so I recommend reading in order. You will see the pull and character changes as things progress, new characters come into play, and plot twist get revealed. Ash and Ty’s romance was sweet. These two learn to trust and you see their character growth throughout the story. Both find what they need in each other. That peace and love. There are some hot scenes, but they don’t over take the story.

I had a great time reading Ashes of War and am looking forward to Zavier’s story. It looks like he is the next to fall for his mate!

Chaotic War is book three in the Sons of War series by Lia Davis. This series does need to be read in order as each story builds on the other and the plot thickens as we move along.

I was very excited to read Chaotic War after finishing [b:Ashes of War|21935308|Ashes of War (Sons of War, #2)|Lia Davis|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1432780698s/21935308.jpg|41235218]. The plot had thickened and the build up for Zavier and Danielle throughout the first two books was wonderful done, but sadly their relationship in this story was lacking.

It's an exciting, quick, and fast-paced read. The storyline seemed unnecessarily rushed. The characters didn’t feel as developed as the past two and the romance felt week, even with the build up throughout the books. We do get to learn about Danielle a.k.a Elle, but what we learned went by way to fast. I would have liked to dig deeper into her heritage. I liked Zavier, but we learn nothing about him or what made him who he is. In Ashes of War we get inside Ty, but here nothing.

I was disappointed in how short this story turned out to be. It’s only 80 pages compared to the first to stories that top over 200 pages. I thought when I bought this I was getting a full length story and then I read it in no time and go “oh that was short."

Chaotic War was an ok read, but it needed to be longer to help the storyline and characters develop more. I wanted to love this one, but couldn’t. I will be check out the next book; since the set up for our next character has me intrigued. Hopefully we get more.

Forgotten Visions is book one in The Divinities series. It's a magical introduction.

We are introduced to several magical characters and creatures; witches, divinities, and demons. In this first installment we center around the murders that are happening in the magical community and who the divinities are.

Ayden and Kalissa knew each other a long time ago, but something happened to make Kalissa forget how important Ayden is to her. With that; their lives go in different directions and both have been hurt, emotionally. They must mend each others souls and learn to love again while navigating an evil bent on destroying the world and them. Unrequited love is painful and yet the author did a great job on pulling these two together and building the romance to where they both remembered, forgave, and loved again.

We get a lot of information in this first book, building of the world, war, and different characters. Which sets us up for more magical goodness. Their is also a mystery on who is killing off the divinities that are out in the world and why are they doing it? We learn a lot here. Magic is real and alive. Those that have the power must band together to protect the world from an ongoing threat.

It was a good start and introduction to The Divinities series. I’m curious to see where things go and who might find their magical partner next.

Death’s Storm is book two in The Divinities series by Lia Davis.

The books are best read in order, since their is an over all story plot that continues from each book and we are leading up to a very big battle or something big.

I enjoyed Death's Storm and found my self pulled in by the pacing of the story and Jagger. We get plenty of action that keeps you going and things progress nicely in the plot and character development. I was pleasantly surprised with how many surprises we got and I didn’t see or expected a few of them. It all added up to an entertaining read.

Jagger is an interesting character. I liked him a lot and would love to explore more on ‘Death Demons’ and his brother. The things we learn about Jagger and Khloe, WOW. I loved. As for Jagger he’s a character that is very powerful and everyone fears, so he lives a solitary life sorta ‘in between’ the good and bad guys. Khloe she dives in head first before thinking, goes in half cocked, and it feels like she craves adrenaline. Her behavior is explained and now I can see why she did the things she does.

Their relationship was fun to watch it progress. There's so much sexual tension and lots of fun banter; between them. I also liked that Jagger didn't necessarily try to control the independent Khloe. He respected her space, even though it was aggravating, but he found a way around it by working with her and joining in the mission. I liked Jagger and Khloe as a couple. They suited each other.

We are also treated to previous characters as well as a few new divinities show up and come into play.

All and all I had an delightful time reading Death's Storm. I'm curious to continue the series and see how everything plays out. There's more going on then we see.

Dark Divine is book three in The Divinities series. This series does need to be read in order. The plot continues throughout the series and each couple we meet, meet up and develop a relationship throughout the books until they get their own.

This novel gives us Zach and Lydia’s story and continues the battle against the demons. Zach is still hiding his true nature from Lydia and the Divinities. Lydia is reluctant to admit that Zach is her fated mated. She’s lost so much and is grieving and fighting in her own way. Theirs mystery, suspense, and insta-love. Secrets are revealed and battles are being fought in this fast paced story.

It’s a unique world with unique and interesting characters. If you enjoy insta-love and quick fast-paced adventures then this series is right up your area. I enjoyed reading the Dark Divine.

Divine Awakening is book four in The Divinities series. The end is here.

This series does need to be read in order. The plot continues throughout the series and each couple we meet, meet up and develop a relationship throughout the books until they get their own.

Divine Awakening starts where Dark Divine ends with Desiree and Lex stuck in the underworld. They must find a way out and join the others to stop the coming apocalypse. I liked Lex and Desiree. She’s looking for her lost son and is grieving; because of the things she’s done to keep him safe and in the process trusted the wrong person. Lex doesn’t want another mate, but can’t help the pull towards his destined one. Things move fast and before you know it we are at the ending battle that will determine the fate of the human world.

Divine Awakening gives us the conclusion of the series. Secrets revealed, family’s coming together, mates finding each other, and more. Things wrap up nicely and everyone gets an HEA.

If you enjoy insta-love and quick fast-paced adventures then this series is right up your area.

Rated: 3.5 Stars

This is a fun Valentine Day themed box set. While A Valentine for Two has a common manage/Valentine Day theme; the stories are all very different. You have a little of everything: romance, erotica, drama, humor, sports, and paranormal.

Here is a list of the stories and authors whose books are included in the set:
Red Hot Pleasures by Lia Davis
Old Flame Burns Again by Angelica Dawson
Love for Her Billionaires by Auriella Skye
Poor White Trash by Sara Wylde
A Valentine’s Deal by T. L. Reeve
Two on One Breakaway by Cassandra Carr
Her Valentine Surprise by N. Kuhn
Heart Of Glass by Riley Murphy
Three is a Charm by Amy Brent
Triad by Kim Carmichael

I admit, I was drawn to the box set because of Cassandra Carr’s TWO ON ONE BREAKAWAY. I follow her hockey romances and was excited for this new story that was tied into her Buffalo Storm series. It was my favorite book in the anthology and an excellent addition to the Storm series. Two hockey teammates, Derek Gant and Ian Terry, were into sharing a woman. They meet Haley, who has never been in a ménage relationship before. I enjoyed the chemistry between the threesome. There were some fascinating relationship, business, and hockey situations (like trades) that made the story interesting. I love that previous Storm characters played a role throughout the story. If you have not read this series, the book works as a standalone.

The only other authors included in the box set whose work I have read before are Lia Davis and Angelica Dawson. I enjoyed being exposed to so many new authors. This is a great steamy read that is appropriately titled. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

So we are back with a delicious BBW paranormal story, this time by an author I have never read before. I was a little nervous reading a new book by an author that I have never read before, but Lia Davis didn’t let me down.
Connie is a bbw (big beautiful women), who is also a witch, so being around paranormal creatures is just an everyday accordance for her. But there is one man/bear that is her mate…Anthony Black. But Anthony keeps putting his foot in it and messing up majorly. So when she thinks he has stated that he doesn’t want her, she leaves heartbroken. But then something dark is out to get her; can Anthony save her in time?
I did really enjoy this book; I just wished it wasn’t so short. A couple of time it got a little confusing, but I think that is because I hadn’t read the first book in the series.
I give Bear Magick 8 out of 10.

Tiffany is a little bit of a control freak! And not only is she planning and catering the Winter Solstice but she is also planning and catering Anthony and Connie’s mating ceremony. But Mother Nature is not on her side and is planning on dumping a ton of snow over the area over night. So she is trying to plan out what she needs and hurrying to get it home, when she falls and breaks her ankle! This is the last thing she needs!
Holt is the clan healer and while over fixing Tiffany’s ankle, he fought his mate! It was someone he had known all of his life and he just didn’t understand why now his mating instinct had kicked in! Who is his mate I hear you ask? Why it’s Tiffany!
So now we follow their rough and tumble courtship and it truly is a sweet book for the holidays.
I really enjoyed reading Tiffany and Holt’s story. It truly is a sweet romance about falling in love with someone you have known all of your life, but have only just discovered their spark. The writing, plot and characters where wonderful! It truly is such a special read and perfect for a snowy night.
I give Beary Sweet Holiday 9 out of 10!

Not much to say about this one, except that I expected more - and as you can guess got less.

A curse cast on Haylee Clark's family has caused all women in it to lose the men they loved tragically. As a result, she's determined to stay away from any man - emotionally - to make sure this doesn't happen to her. But when a storm lands newbie writer Nate Wilson on her doorstep, the passion between the two will be more than each can handle. Now they REALLY need to get rid of that curse...

The plot as it was left me waiting for so much - even if it's a short story, there was still a shitload of ways this could have gone so deliciously right! Yet, despite the hotness in some scenes, I was left empty-handed. It's not that classic line most reviewers say: "The romance was too instant!". No, this was a short story, of course the romance would start and bloom in ridiculous speed.

The problem was that the book kept telling me instead of showing me. Plus, it left so many gaps in theories and stuff, I ended up caring for that old man , the third wheel, more than I did for the main couple. I've said it before, many times, when I stop caring for both the main characters, that's when a book has lost me completely.

Good thing it was so short. Put me out of my misery fast enough....
