I've tried all kinds of vocabulary books with my first-year non-English majors students at a Japanese university, and I keep coming back to this one (and the other books in the series). Other books may be more thorough, but this one keeps the students interested throughout the semester or year. And of course, because words are discovered through hints, often sentences with gaps, words are learned in context rather than in isolation. Combined with old-fashioned wordcards, and the occasional vocabulary game such as word associations, I find this does as much as I can expect to cover the explicit vocabulary learning component of my courses.… (plus d'informations)
