This book definitely just ends... the second book in the series is a pure continuation of this one. I ended up enjoying the story, but the number of people with a hard-on for our main character is so absurd that I kept waiting for the plot twist where Aphrodite was his real mom or a witch cursed him at birth or something!

I received a copy of this book from the author via IndiGo Marketing & Design in exchange for an honest review

We meet Asher and Max again. YAY!! It doesn't seem to be much after the end of book 1, but it is hard to really tell how much time has passed. Asher is living with Max and he enjoys being with him, but feels smothered a lot of the time because he needs bodyguards and he really can't do anything on his own. Asher is a man of his own mind, and that does not go well with (as he puts it) needing babysitters. Asher manages to get a bathroom break away from his bodyguard and he gets kidnapped. The bad guys are after Max and are using Asher for ransom and revenge.

This book is more mystery and a story of Max trying to get Asher back than any kind of romance. There are a couple of scenes between the guys, but the majority is the kidnapping. We finally get a little more detail about Max and what he is capable of, but I still have no clue exactly what he does. He isn't a drug lord (that I know of) and he actively shut down a child selling ring, so he seems pretty good...except don't cross him because he can make most anything happen and it isn't likely going to be good.

Max Tyler has never felt emotions for any person he has ever been with, but with Asher he is finally finding out what fear, pain, and love are. Although there wasn't a lot of romance and/or sex in this, I felt that it showed how Max really felt and showed some growth in their relationship. Without having this book in Max's POV, I don't think I would have been able to believe his feelings for Asher beyond just the obsessive lover stuff. This made me see his feelings are deeper, even if he doesn't quite understand them or know how to deal with them.

I enjoyed this sequel. Hurri Cosmo is great and I love reading books by her.

Lucas had a crush on his best friend in school, but a meddling nasty girl outed his crush. His crush disappeared, the high school kids who were present made Lucas' life miserable, and Lucas had a hard time trusting and moving on after that. Fast forward 14 years and Lucas comes across his crush again in a mysterious bar. Ryder has been thinking of Lucas for years, and the two of them get reunited. It was sweet how the two guys finally found each other again. This was a short story, so there weren't a lot of answers for "how" or "why", but it says this is a Book 1, so I am hoping we get to learn more about Solomon as time goes on. I'm definitely interested in reading more in this world.

I am voluntarily reviewing an ARC provided by IndiGo Marketing & Design

I do love a good space adventure, and 'The Astral Mage' has got all the required ingredients: a somewhat mysterious, powerful political entity, space ships and planets of all types, space pirates, strangely named materials and weapons. Then it adds another element: astral mages with the ability to manipulate life energy, also known as "soul givers". With some creative world-building and interesting characters, this story rapidly pulled me in and didn’t let me go until the end. And even then I wanted to read on!

Tilbarr is captain of the Wolf, a spaceship that finds itself in trouble on a regular basis. They're not exactly pirates – most of the time, and Tilbarr has a particular code of behavior that follows its own set of rules and ethics, but they are not law-abiding members of the ConFed empire either. More like mercenaries who pick and chose their assignments, I guess. When Tilbarr rescues Kyrus, an astral mage, from enslavement and being sold to the highest bidder, everything changes. And not because he is falling in love – at least that is what he chooses to believe – until it's too late and he loses Kyrus.

Kyrus has been abused, mistreated, and hunted all his life. He's seen as a valuable commodity, since his ability to bring people back to life is extremely useful. Tilbarr is the first man who seems to see him as a person, and Kyrus quickly falls for him. Except he cannot allow himself to fall in love, because he won’t be able to survive the pain of being sold on (which is what he expects). Rather than endanger Tilbarr, Kyrus decides to run, even though it hurts him to give up the first chance at happiness he's ever found. But at least Tilbarr will be safe – or so Kyrus thinks.

If you like space opera with galaxy-enveloping plots, if you enjoy reading stories with a touch of the paranormal, and if you're looking for a read that is as entertaining as it is futuristic and suspenseful, then you will probably like this novel.
