Yhe author set out to describe paddling trails throughout all the United States so descriptions of aan individual stretch of an indivisual river are eithr missing or just a paragraph or two in most instances. Cetain stretches arecovered more thoroughly and sometimes with a map.

The first chapter is a general discussoin of types of rivers and types of trips. The remainder of the book is chapters of trip descriptions arranged by six geographic regions of the country.
