I was halfway through the book when I realized I already keep a Done List. Or my version of it, at least. I just didn't realize there was a name for it. For example, I was never good at journal writing despite my best efforts, but I did naturally adopt a habit from my dad of writing down all the noteworthy experiences that happened to me on a given day. Bullet Journals are all the rage now, but I think what I do is only a small part of that.

Proponents of the Done List like to claim it replaces the To-Do List, but I don't see how. As tyrannical as the to-do list is, it's still indispensable if handled right. The key is to not let it weigh you down with its never-ending-ness. There are various schools of thought on this, but my simple breakdown is this: Separate your list into two lists—that which you can tackle right away, and that which can wait but is still important to remember. The second component is to not let any one item grow stale. Purge and re-create the list over and over. Keep it active and keep it relevant.

This short book from the creators of iDoneThis, a progress tracking software system, is worth checking out for anyone interested in the topic of productivity.
