Mustafa Can

This is such a moving book. I don't think it has been translated into English but it should be! It is the story of a mother, who moves with her surviving 8 children to join her husband in Sweden where he has been working to provide for his family. They cannot bear to be apart any longer and so she moves from a Kurdish village in Turkey to join him. It is a book about mothers, generations, culture, identity and the longing to go home. Her son Mustafa (the author) describes his attempt to understand and find out who his mother really is - while she is gradually dying in Sweden and longing to be back in her village - at home. For him - Sweden is home - to some extent. He describes so well - the feeling of what it means to be from two cultures - to be at home in both and neither.
