Admittedly, I didn't read the whole thing (skipped a lot of the text, read almost all of comics,) but to be fair, this book is like 800 pages long.

I got exactly what I wanted though. Found some new artists/comics I want to check out. Glad I (sorta) read it.

I enjoyed flipping through this. It's a huge tome and I was only borrowing it from the library, so I certainly didn't get to read all of it. D&Q has quite the history in only 25 years. Amazing!

While I respect what the publisher Drawn & Quarterly has done for the comic art form, I did not find this a particularly enjoyable read. It is an 800 page, fawning, back-slapping awards show: guests come in to praise an artist, then there's a small clip of their work. It is useful if you want to try out new artists and then go find more of their work, but this collection in-and-of itself is unsatisfying.

Trisha merkt (te laat) dat het oproepen van een geest m.b.v. een glas meer is dan zomaar een spelletje.

Het verhaal speelt zich af onder leden van een jeugdclub uit de richting van de pinksterbeweging. Drie meisjes beginnen uit verveling tijdens de vakantie een occult spelletje te spelen, waarbij de geest van een glas antwoord op hun vragen moet geven. Het boek waarschuwt impliciet en expliciet tegen dit soort bezigheden, waarbij duivelse krachten in het geding zijn. In het verhaal redt bekering tot God net op tijd van deze satanische invloeden, die al grote ongelukken beginnen te veroorzaken.

THe best feature of this book was the "True Stories" element. There are hypothetical scenarios (bullies, jealousy, being left out, etc) and ideas on how they should handle it all. It is not the greatest resource out there but it is something.

A goldmine of artistry that chronicles the complete history of D+Q. A bit self-serving, but well deserved. I found some authors to put in my graphic novels queue via this anthology.
