Julep is a mother, grandmother, and fairly new widow, trying to make a new life for herself without the husband she hadn't expected to lose so soon. She's determined to make this holiday season a happy one for her family, even if it'll mean keeping a few secrets from her children in Tybee Holiday Homecoming by author Laura Brighton.

As someone who stays on the lookout for Christmas stories that aren't romances (because Christmas romances are so easy to find even when I'm not looking for 'em), I was happy to come across this contemporary ChristFic read that kicks off the holiday season for the Tucker family.

This novella, the first book in the Tybee Island series, sets up some backstory for the family and introduces the various characters and what they're dealing with. However, while the book gives a glimpse into the Tuckers' lives as they spend some time together, cooking and eating and chatting about everyday matters, the read doesn't have much of a plot.

So I don't see this first book as a story but rather an introduction to a story. It could use some closer proofreading, but the errors aren't excessive.
