Between Fracture Lines is the second book in the Bakken series. It continues the story of Mony, Massey, Nate, and John as they deal with old secrets coming to light and try to figure out who is behind suspicious activity aimed against their family and others in Williston, North Dakota.

This book was a little confusing at times because it goes back and forth from the points of view of the four main characters. Each of them are finding out things pertaining to the crimes being committed and I had trouble keeping that information straight at times. That being said, I was able to sort it out and remained interested in the story and how people were connected. There were a few surprises.

The ending and the epilogue were not a surprise, but still satisfying. There will be a lot more to tell related to that part of the story.

There are loose ends that have not been tied up at the conclusion of the book. I anxiously await the next book in the Bakken series and recommend these books.

When Ramona Strong goes back to Williston, North Dakota to bury her father, she knows it is not going to be easy. She has also recently lost her husband and is dealing with long buried feelings and family secrets.

Beneath the Bedrock is unique in that it takes place in the North
Dakota Bakken oil fields. This is an area not familiar to most readers. The greed of the big oil companies clashes with the protective instinct of the local population and the Ferguson and Altman families. The romantic parts of this book take place between characters in their early 50's which I found refreshing. These characters are not perfect. They have secrets and emotions churning all over the place. The writing draws you in and you believe in these characters. The progression of the storyline is realistic even though there is a lot of angst and activity happening over a relatively short period of time.

I would not consider this book a standalone because there are too many loose ends yet to tie together. I look forward to reading the next installment in the series.
