The excellent first entry in a near-future Sci-Fi series, introducing a charming cast and a plausible world.
This book is a lot like a tv series, with mini-arcs building towards a big overall story. It starts off by introducing the ensemble, mostly a gaggle of talented teenagers from a very wide variety of backgrounds. They each have an interesting history and diverse skillset, so the way that they'll get along isn't immediately apparent.
The story picks up to a roaring pace by the middle, when the characters have begun to establish a group dynamic. The story shines the most when the main characters are all together and bouncing off of each other. The sections where they're playing video games and their relationships are developing are the most fun.
By the climax, the disparate elements introduced early on all come together in a satisfying way. The stakes raise, the action intensifies, and as you might expect the heroes triumph (for the most part).
