I loved this book. Gentle and almost refreshing in its simplicity- Jeanne Bendick explains sexual reproduction with enough (but not too much)detail.

This does have some illustrations of male and female reproductive parts in it but they are not overly detailed. It illustrates sexual intimacy but not in a graphic way.

It also shows being pregnant, discusses birth, and nursing.

Overall an excellent option for the gentle introduction of a sensitive topic.½

Fantastic book! Part biography of Archimedes, it includes ancient Greek history and culture, a little bit of geography, and a lot of science and math. Some of the math was too technical for my almost 7-year-old, but overall we both really enjoyed this one. I need to get a copy for my shelves.

Simple chapter book for children, illustrated with drawings and old photographs and lithographs.½

I think there were a lot of books like these published in the 1960s. This book is not one of the best, the illustrations, line drawing are pretty poor and the text is a bit haphazard. There is even a typo, where the planets are accidentally described as going around the earth.

A wide variety of mathematical subjects is covered including music theory, perspective, pointillism, algebra, data presentation, topology, ciphers, tangrams, geometrical shapes in nature, the regular solids, conic sections, polygons, angles, and parallel lines.½

Galen was the chief physician to the gladiators. (Cool!) He was also the first to show that arteries carry blood, not air.

A real gem. The story and illustrations present scientific principles and the details of Archimedes life clearly and enjoyably.

Interesting enough...if you like math and science. I found this one a bit tedious simply because I am NOT a math and science person, but it's got its moments. Like the Eureka! story. I won't spoil it here, but Archimedes' devotion to figuring out something was both amusing and almost laudable.
