Nick Aymes, Under Orders, Headline Delta, 1994

I had previously read the same author’s ’Under Duress’ (1996), which is similar in many ways, and I’d been hoping for the same quality and interest. I was disappointed. Both novels have similar subjects: rich, highly charged (and well-endowed) men with interests in top-level British horse-racing, influencing large numbers of biddable young women towards large numbers of steamy erotic encounters, with an appreciable punitive flavour. Although Aymes managed to achieve the right balance of plot and cavorting in the later novel he hadn’t got it right for this one. It’s still good, with lots of girls of a range of sexualities desperate for satisfaction, and some intriguing chastisement scenes, very enjoyable for those with this interest, but the plot, to do with illicit horse doping, doesn’t quite hold the interest. The racing detail is magnificent, though showing the author knows his stuff. It is entertaining, but just a bit disappointing, and not matching the later book.… (plus d'informations)

This is a tale of inter-stable rivalry in the field of horse racing, told with particularly strong erotic overtones and involving much disciplinary activity. Its setting, that of horse racing, is authoritatively described and will please many, as will the chastising predilections of some of its characters. Its principal concern is the bitterness between one-time friends over a female friend, long gone, and the involvement of a number of competent and hot-blooded young women paid to resolve their feud. They are also enthusiastic participants in the games of their several masters. It’s a good, well-written story, which will satisfy many enthusiasts of erotic literature.… (plus d'informations)
