This was a fun book. I loved it I loved it. Not only does it center music, but, we follow a band and artists through out the entire book.

The author knows their shit. Because they know their shit, this book was well written. They did not half ass any of the bits about music in the book. It actually really helped because you weren’t trying to figure things out, you just enjoyed the book and was confident that everything they wrote made sense.
Now I have no background in music as an artist, neither have I studied it. I just really love music and this was one of those books that I think was able to bring out a BTS coverage of artist life. This could definitely be wrong since it is fiction but I doubt it.
There’s also a romance plot somewhere in there and it was cute at times, tumultuous mostly but all in all we got our happy ending!

If you’re looking for a book that has music as one of its primary themes, highly recommend this.

Girls With Bad Decisions by Xio Axelrod
The Lilly’s series #2. Girl rock band contemporary romance. Can be read as a stand-alone but better as part of the series. This book takes place directly after the first book and the couple from the first book are secondary characters / part of the band, in this book.
Kayla Whitman started to learn to play the drums from her older brother. After he died, she has put her focus and dreams on being a drummer in a rock band. She’s also living a secretive life with the band by using a different name. Her band mates don’t know her real name or that she grew up with restrictions of being proper, quiet, and behaved.
Ty Baldwin is the new driver on the band’s tour of county and State Fairs. He’s constantly reading which makes him a kindred spirit for Kayla and the two soon grow close. He’s had some legal trouble in the past but he just wants to move forward now with a good job to help take care of his grandfather.
But the past isn’t easily forgotten or hidden.

I was so excited to start this second book. I really loved Toni and Seb’s story. This starts shortly after the first from Kayla’s POV. Kayla is impressed with the other women in the group and their talents. She doesn’t realize the key role she plays and often refers to herself as “just the drummer”. Her past is a bit sad and you want her to succeed.
Kayla and Ty together are adorable with their love of books, and carving out their own style. Both have family issues they don’t want to address but they can’t get away with ignoring.
It’s has both sweet and rock and roll vibes and with the band on the route to success, I’m looking forward to the next book of the Lilly’s.
4.5

This wasn’t super romantic, and certainly not swoon-worthy, but having a girl rock band and a black rocker as the lead was fun. Black ladies with guitars are one of my favorite things. I also liked that the characters had some nuance, but Candi was utterly exhausting.

Seb’s whole life was supposed to be this sad sack existence, but I didn’t really feel it. He was too passive and spineless. Maybe a few more flashbacks, or at least longer ones, of younger Toni and Seb would have made me root for them more. I felt like I was being told why they had a connection but never seeing it. it’s a little awkward that he’s basically the manager. Those manager + artist relationships (usually) never work out, and the dynamics can feel imbalanced.

I don’t know. Did I want Seb to grovel more? They went from distance to not knowing how the other felt to banging … a fast trajectory.

And every time they had sex was after a super emotional moment. the sex scenes also read like Wattpad/fanfiction; largely unsexy. Emotions run high and some people like to use sex to get their minds off of things. But I wish they could’ve had a heart-to-heart during a casual moment.

Instead, I enjoyed Toni’s family drama more, which is something I hadn’t thought I would say. Her mom’s consumed with getting her big break and just phones her parenting in, and her dad is a former deadbeat who doesn’t make it a secret he doesn’t need Toni around. Because of this, Toni’s had to take care of herself, so her falling out with Seb is even more hurtful.

SN: I liked the cover! And I think the marketing is stellar. The Lillys have a whole website and the song Hurt (U) is majorly catchy.

The Girl with Stars in Her Eyes by Xio Axelrod
The Lillys series #1. Contemporary romance. Dual time line via memories. Chick lit.
Toni Bennette grew up in dive bars. She learned to play guitar and used it to form her whole life. She’s made a name for herself in the Philadelphia indie scene and decides to audition as a temporary replacement for one of the Lillys’. Strong, feminist, and fierce as fire, Toni and the Lillys are the perfect match. Which doesn’t sit well with wild woman Candy who being replaced. Toni also has to reconcile working with Sebastian Quick again after he left her cold when he turned eighteen. They had been best friends and support for each other since grade school, promising each other they would leave their small, poor, existence behind when they left together. They both still have feelings for each other. Now they have to figure out what they want their future to look like.

I loved this story. Well written and emotional from a heartbreaking child put on a bus by herself to a confident woman holding her own as she’s making her music. Sure, like all of us, she has insecurities that she must deal with while trying to impress and befriend a group of already impressive musicians and singers.
Engaging and ultimately heart warming. I’m cheering on the band and the women behind it.

My rating is an average across eight very different stories. I'm glad to've read this because the good ones are exceptional. As with all anthologies, I'll never love every story. This one had four I bailed out of, mostly due to boredom. So:

One star each to the first three (someone likes them, I'm not mad they exist).

Four stars to Seong-Ja's story (by Cole McCade). It was a little slow, but I'm a huge Criminal Intentions fan, and Seong-Jae's sister is a great character. Also her boyfriend is AWESOME.

Four stars for 'Sugar Crush,' one of the better opposites attract stories I've read.

Five stars for the incredible When Frankie Meets Johnny. I went right out and found other work by Xio Axelrod. That good.

One star for the very very slow vampire historical.

And, five stars for the Mary Calmes story, though it could've used another edit pass. It's her brand of snarky and intense and fast and sweet.

Average, somewhere around 3.5 stars.

I have been reading "Rock and Roll Romance" since junior high school. I am not big on romance stories, but I will make an exception if it is stories of relationships with a musical backdrop. Especially if it serves me both road to stardom and relationships (friend, familial, and love). I have seen a rash of these books pop up as a trend after Jenkins-Reid's "Daisy Jones and the Six", and trust me, I am here for it. However, this didn't serve any of that for me. The story was just incredibly long-winded and ended up where everyone knew it would end up. There were no real amazing revelations, no one character was so developed that you could invest yourself in them. It ended up reminding me of that person that is trying to tell you the story of why they were late, and it takes 40 minutes to tell you what they could have told you in one sentence, that they just got lost.

One Sentence Summary: Toni Bennette (yeah, she's heard it all) wants nothing more than to work in music production with Richie, but doesn't have the money to put in to become his business partner, until an offer to play with the Lillys, a hot up and coming band, comes her way.

The indie rock scene of Philadelphia. It kind of felt like it had my name on it even though I'm not a rock fan. Still, I adore music, and Philadelphia has a special place in my heart. So, of course I had to read this one! Add in a feminist guitarist who did not have an easy life but still has ambition and a female indie rock band and a childhood crush and it just feels like the perfect combination for a sexy, sassy, musical read. Even if I wasn't going to understand most, if any, of the music references.

The Plot: A Surprisingly Intense Story

As teens, Antonia and Sebastian were inseparable, bound by music and bad fathers, after Antonia's mother shipped her off to the middle of nowhere in Pennsylvania to pursue her dreams of stardom. Years later, Sebastian abruptly took off in the middle of the night, leaving Antonia on her own.

Fast forward about eight years and Toni is a musician in Philadelphia. She's in residence at the Electric Unicorn and does sessions at Phactory Sound, where she befriends the owner's son, Richie. She dreams of becoming his partner, and he's pushing for it as well, as long as she can come up with thirty-five grand.

Sebastian, meanwhile, has spent the years piecing together a rising female rock band called the Lillys. But all is not well as socialite turned guitarist Candi has a falling out with the rest of the group, opening up a space for a temporary guitarist, a space Toni fits the bill for.

The past is ready to smack both Toni and Sebastian in the face, bringing up uncomfortable and angry feelings. But it also brings questions to Toni of what she really wants, especially as she witnesses firsthand everything she never wanted.

I really enjoyed The Girl with Stars in Her Eyes. It felt fierce and confident, raw and real. It was a surprisingly intense story that completely riveted me. The only thing that I wasn't a huge fan of was the romance. It was always at the edges, always simmering, but I really preferred the story of Toni and the Lillys. I loved reading the story of an outsider slowly being welcomed into the group.

The Girl with Stars in Her Eyes is described as a feminist novel. Indeed, there are strong women, women who know what they want, women willing to do anything and everything to get what they want, and broken women who continue to fight. It does mean the men were, mostly, not great characters, though there were some redeeming ones. I loved how strong the women's characterizations were. I did get a couple of the minor ones mixed up, but, after awhile, I was able to keep all of them straight and could see how interesting and different each of them were. In their own ways, each of them were a force to be reckoned with, so I don't envy the role Sebastian played in all their lives.

I really enjoyed the story of Toni becoming accepted into the Lillys. She's insanely talented, but being on stage in the limelight is not her thing. I liked that her choice to work with them was for practical reasons, and really enjoyed reading about the unique family the women created. Most of it really was full of music and how it drew the women together, creating a firm common ground and foundation for them, especially because of the manner Toni entered their group.

But there's also a fairly intense romance worked into this already surprisingly intense book. It's there, sizzling away at the fringes, from the very beginning and only seemed to grow from there. But there's also a really lovely friendship, and everything that goes with repairing trust. Most of the time, I felt this was nicely woven into the story, but, other times, it seemed to take over and, while I enjoyed and appreciated it, I did lose interest a bit. It felt predictable and like it wanted to take over more than it actually did.

Overall, I did enjoy this book immensely. It has some really strong women, especially women who are trying to break into a world dominated by men who are in charge. It's also a gorgeous story of four women coming together to form a family based on a shared love of the same music.

The Characters: Plenty of Strong Women

There are a lot of characters in The Girl with Stars in Her Eyes, but I mostly found it easy to keep them separate. They had unique personalities and played different roles. Actually, that helped a lot, each of them playing a different and unique role within the story. The one thing that I struggled with was that some of them were expats, but I had trouble with both remembering and hearing their accents in my head. It was always something of a surprise to be reminded they had come from other countries.

I really liked Toni and Sebastian, though I wish their relationship hadn't been quite so intense. She's strong and fierce, but also fragile and maybe a little too forgiving. She clearly has a soft spot for Sebastian, but is stubborn and intent on being self-sufficient. Sebastian is kind of a broken soul and never shies away from it. But he tries really hard to be better, and it's all his trying that won me over. Otherwise he kind of felt broken beyond repair until his childhood friend comes back into his life.

The Lillys were awesome. A group of four women who were brought together by Sebastian, they had a lot in common, but that didn't stop them from having creative differences. In many ways, they felt exactly as I always imagined a real band would. They were all fun to get to know and I loved how well they worked and blended together. Even through their differences, their bonds were strong.

Above all, I loved that The Girl with Stars in Her Eyes was about people not changing their fundamental cores. By that I mean that none of the characters changed, exactly, but matured instead. Who they were remained who they are, but they're capable of seeing things with more mature eyes. I loved seeing how Toni and Sebastian didn't change, but just grew up and matured while holding tightly to their pasts and who they had been. Who they had been as kids remained who they were as adults.

The Setting: East Coast Music Spaces

The Girl with Stars in Her Eyes is set mostly in Philadelphia and New York City. But I think most of it was actually set in various studios and other rehearsing spaces. I didn't really get a true sense of place, except through the food of Philadelphia. But it was still nice to kind of feel like I was back in Philadelphia.

I've never been in a recording studio or a place like the Electric Unicorn, but I loved the attention to detail. The author was raised in the music industry and records, writes, and performs, so I trust she knows what she's writing about! There were so many interesting tidbits I'd never known about and it was fun to get to learn it all. All the details really made me feel like I was in a recording studio. The stage event felt a little more artistic to me, so it was a little difficult to envision some of it and to connect with it, but it was still a rather incredible scene in many ways.

Overall: A Fantastic, Intense Read

The Girl with Stars in Her Eyes is a fantastic novel. Sure, there were some things I wasn't a huge fan of, especially the romance, but I did love the intensity and all the strong women with strong personalities. The attention to detail was incredible and really made the story into something amazing. The story felt like it had been stripped raw and I loved that there was no sugar coating. The characters were intense, the story was intense. It reeled me in and I couldn't stop reading.

Toni grew up with her irascible father in small-town Pennsylvania after her mother abandons her for her dream of becoming a star. All she has is her love of music and her best friend Sebastian. That is, until he does that unthinkable and abandons her too.
Years later, as a struggling musician in Philadelphia, Toni find herself on the edge of a stardom she never wanted when Seb walks back into her life and she is left reeling. She knows she has to work with him for the sake of her career, but does she secretly want more?
Xio Axelrod has created a modern rock and roll romance. I was sold on this book when I read that the main character is a badass guitarist in Philly and Toni did not disappoint. I do not usually read Romance, but this book had a solid storyline with a few steamy scenes thrown in. It was a fun read that was over too soon. I cannot wait for the next book in The Lillys series!

This looks like an interesting series as the various members of the Lillys, the all-girl rock group are a diverse and compelling group of characters. Toni is a strong female lead in this book and a hard-rocking guitar player from a tough background. I loved the musical tidbits the author threw in about the industry and musicians in general. Seb, her childhood crush/friend and now the band's 'manager,' is a harder sell for me. He seems weak in general, not a great complement to Toni.
The story revolves around Toni as a substitute guitar player for Candi who's messed up with drugs and bad notoriety. It's a pretty good story, but I was distracted by some poor editing that left plot holes. Stuff like: How did Toni's mother find her in a club in Philly when her only clue was a fuzzy tape of her getting into a van in NYC? I also didn't like the periodic flashbacks to young Toni and Seb which didn't add a lot to the story and could have been skipped in my opinion.
I do think there's a lot of promise here and I mostly enjoyed the book.

As a young child, all Antonia "Toni" Bennett knew was the love of music passed down begrudgingly from her mother who, for years, was trying to make it big as a rockstar. When her mother unceremoniously leaves Toni with her father without even a backward glance, Toni comes to the acquaintance of Sebastian Quick. Toni and Sebastian form a fast friendship over both of the love of music. They make a pact to save up enough money to one day leave their small town together. But when Sebastian disappears on Toni, she realizes the only person she can truly count on is herself.

Now, years later and Toni is scraping by as a solo act in Philadelphia, and sitting in on studio sessions as an extra player when she's able. When she's offered her dream job of buying into one of Philly's most well-regarded recording studios as a partner, Toni almost can't believe her luck, but things come crashing down when she realizes she doesn't have the money to put up for it. When an opportunity arises for Toni to audition for an up and coming female rock band, she's all in. But doing so brings her face to face with Sebastian. She can't let her unresolved feelings for Seb get in the way of her dreams, but there's no denying that there's still so much left between them.

I have never read anything by Xio Axelrod before, but the whole rock n roll premise of the book hooked me. I wasn't quite as prepared for how much romance would be in the story, so that was an unexpected, happy, surprise as well.

Getting to listen to the audiobook I always love it when we get dual narrators. In this case we have Tamika Simone narrating for Toni and Alexander Cendese narrating for Seb. I thought both of them did a great job of really making their own characters come to life and almost how seamlessly things moved from one narrator to another (after I got used to both of their voices of course).

The thing about the book for me is that even though we get Seb's point of view and learn about his life and his feelings, the book still feels dominated by Toni.

I immediately liked that we actually get to have female characters that are part of a rock group and not relegated to pop or something softer. Not that those are bad things, I just feel like I've read that story before. I enjoyed reading about these women weaving themselves within a male-dominated field of the music industry. I kind of wish the book had touched on this topic a bit more than it did.

As I said, this is Toni's story, so a lot of it deals with her rise in the music world. How hard she has worked to get where she's at and her complete love for all things music which is helped along by her natural talent. She's still relatively new in the industry and I kind of appreciated the fact that she's in it for more than the fame. She is actually not looking to be famous at all, she genuinely wants to make great music. I loved seeing how the group, The Lillys, comes together and forms this cohesive unit. You can totally feel their vibe, how much coordination and trust has to be between them in order for the music to come through. Within this structure of the group, it's also a time for Toni to become more confident in herself. I mean she knows she can play, but she's never really been given the opportunity to full express herself with her music on her own terms. In getting to the end of the story I like thinking back to where Toni was at the beginning to where she ends up. It's a magical journey.

And within this journey you have Toni and Seb. I loved all of their interactions and I'm always a sucker for a second chance romance (although there was not really any first time romance as Toni's young feelings for Seb were unknown). They had that bond and Seb broke it. I just glom onto the ideas of people coming back into our lives for a reason. They were meant to be with us in some capacity.

So while this is definitely Toni's story, there are quite a few threads left open in regards to the other members of The Lillys - specifically Lilly herself whom I hope will be the next book in this series. I cannot wait to spend more time with these women as they take the world by storm!

The Warm Up by Xio Axelrod

Hockey romance novella. Sexy and heartwarming.
Zim is a professional hockey player setting up a donation at a hospital. Suji doesn’t want her patients disturbed or exploited. The sparks between them can’t be ignored.

I really liked this couple. Zim is generous, humble, empathetic and kind. He likes Suji for her strength and commitment to her charges. Suji is not afraid to express her opinion and can’t resist the hot athlete.

I listened to the audio version, narrated by Megan Tusing and Greg Tremblay in alternating chapters. They made the story fun and entertaining.

Deep Check by Kimberly Kincaid - Finn is a man on the move. From a young age, he was always on the run. Running from the pain of abandonment and neglect. Running from feelings too hard to express. Leaving behind tattered friendships and broken hearts along the way. When a crowning moment brings him to the place and people he left behind, can his Calendar girl become his saving grace? Out of triumph comes tragedy. Deep Check has it all. Realism, heartbreak and reunions. January and Finn take personal tragedy and turn it into a winning hand. Along with a bit of help but an often mentioned but never seen guardian angel. Deep Check is a story of soul searching that broke our hearts, but healed the soul. (4.5 stars)

In Skates Trouble by Kate Meader - She's playing hard to get. Is he up for the challenge? Kate Meader is a no holds barred romantic. In Skates Trouble proves it. Her cat and mouse formula of bad boy seeking mystery woman was well played. Ford and Addison are wicked sexy and eerily romantic. She keeps him on his toes, while easily stealing his heart. The thrill of the chase is worth the wait. (5 stars)

Free Agent by Robin Covington - Follow your heart. Live out your dreams and live life to the fullest. Three of life's riskiest endeavors. The beauty of Free Agent is that Robin Covington tried something different. DC proved being different does not have to be a liability but a stepping stone to a better life and a happier you. I'm all for the power of that extraordinary message. (4 stars)

Check My Heart by Christi Barth - Can a heartbreaking tragedy, lead to the love of a lifetime? Check My Heart is a beautifully written story of hope and compassion. Ms. Barth knows how to touch the heart. (4 stars)

Blade by Avery Flynn - Ms. Flynn likes to stir the pot, while burning up the sheets. Meaning? Unconventional characters in seductive scenarios equal plenty of surprising moments. What drew me to Blade was Gillie. A reformed bad girl with a ton of grit and an abundance of heart willing to risk it all to help out a friend and redeem herself. Sassy, sexy and entertaining. (4 stars)

Ransom by Nana Malone - Ransom is used to the heartbreak of rejection, but can he handle the thrill of falling in love? It takes more courage to trust than to give up without a fight. Nana Malone is good at spicing it up while working her magic on a readers heart. (5 stars)

Each book in this amazing anthology has its own flavor. Every character is unique in their day with the Cup but most of them have ignored their hometowns and families for a long while as they built their careers. And now they are making amends by bringing home the biggest honor in the Ice Hockey world.

A great mix of authors and their stories with something for everyone plus an excellent cause to support makes this anthology a winner.

I am a hockey romance addict, so when I saw this anthology I had to have it. I have read a lot of anthologies, what I liked the most about this one is that it had a common theme. Each novella was about a different NHL player on the recent Stanley Cup Championship team the New Orleans Cajun Rage. The stories were about the individual player’s day with the Cup and a legend about them finding their true love on their day. I love how all the books were clearly coordinated. Players were mentioned in each other’s books, and Edwin Motz, the Keeper of the Cup, made an appearance in the stories. Even though each tale had a common theme, every story was amazingly different, enjoyable, and exciting. I like that some of the authors tied their books to existing series. I love that 20% of the royalties earned goes to the Homes For Our Troops charity, a nonprofit organization that builds mortgage-free, specially modified homes for severely injured veterans.

HOT ON ICE consists of eighteen stories:

DEEP CHECK (Station Seventeen #1.5) by Kimberly Kincaid. After a fight, hockey Center, Finnegan Donnelly couldn’t leave his hometown of Remington and his two best friends behind fast enough. Seven years later, he finds himself taking the Cup home to visit his ex-best friend Asher’s grave. While there he is reunited with January Sinclair, the other person, he left behind. DEEP CHECK is a sweet second chance hockey/firefighter romance.

BEAR NAKED by Katie Kenyhercz. After nine years, NHL Defensman, Bear Thompson, returns home to Bear Mountain Reserve in Canada. He wants to get permission to allow a television crew and outsiders onto the reserve for his day with the Cup in hopes of giving his people some good publicity. However, he needs to convince the Chief/his ex-girlfriend, Aria Paul, that it is in the Mi’Kmaq’s best interest. BEAR NAKED is a charming second chance romance. I loved the cultural aspects of this story.

BODY CHECK by Desiree Holt. NHL Defenseman, Matt Vorchak, is coping with a career-ending injury. He returns home to San Antonio for his day with the Cup, to do some apologizing, and soul searching. He seeks out Lizzie St. John, the girl he walked away from. BODY CHECK is a thought-provoking second chance romance.

BREAKAWAY BROOKE by Angi Morgan. Left winger, Deacon “Tripp” Sanders heads to McKinney, TX for his day with the Cup. Coming from a prestigious family, his life has been threatened. Unbeknownst to him, his family hires bodyguard, Brooke Henderson, to keep an eye on him. BREAKAWAY BROOKE has a bit of a supernatural feel. It is full of action and twists.

UNDER THE MIDNIGHT SUN by Kim Golden. NHL Center, Jonas Magnusson, is recovering from a concussion. He goes home to Stockholm for his day with the Cup; while there he is reunited Mariam Kidane.

IN SKATES TROUBLE (Chicago Rebels, #0.5) by Kate Meader. NHL right winger star, Ford Callaghan, takes the Cup home to Chicago; while there he meets the woman of his dreams, Addison Williams. Unfortunately, she is also the ex-wife of his team’s owner. I adored this story. I will definitely be following the new Chicago Rebels series.

CHECKING YES by Misty D. Waters. Left winger, Cooper Banks, left Dove Harbor, Georgia, after discovering a secret, leaving behind Savannah Jane Scott, the love of his life. Three years later, he returns home for his day with the Cup. CHECKING YES is a delightful second chance romance with many exciting twists.

PENALTY BOX BLUES (a Wild Thing novella) by Robin Kaye. Defenseman, Stryker Gyllenhal, pays off a debt to a friend by taking the Cup back home to Boise, Idaho; while there he is assigned a handler, his ex-tutor and childhood friend, Trish Reynolds. However, he doesn’t recognize her now that she is no longer hiding behind frumpy clothes. PENALTY BOX BLUES is a heartfelt read with a lot of insight and thought-provoking content. This was an adorable story that made me want to check out the Wild Thing Series.

FREE AGENT by Robin Covington. Jamie “DC” Washington has had an eventful year; he just won the Stanley Cup; he is a free agent, and he announced at a press conference that he was gay. While heading to Washington DC, for his day with the Cup, he bumps into his PT Etienne, whom he has been lusting after.

BLADE (B-Squad #2.5) by Avery Flynn. Goaltender, Flynn Kazakov spends his day with the Cup in Snow Bay, The Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Thief, Gillie Pike, tries to warn him that someone is attempting to frame him. BLADE is full of action and twists.

MAKING HIS MOVE by Susan Scott Shelley. Backup Goalie, Rod Fraser heads to New York. He bumps into his sister Kelsey’s best friend, Arielle Charton, who he has had a crush on. He tries to convince her to go on a date with him.

CHECK MY HEART by Christi Barth. Center, Kurt Lundquist, dying little brother Jasper, request that he win the Cup. Ten months later, he won the Cup but Jasper wasn’t around to see it. Kurt runs into Jasper’ nurse Lissette, whom his is attracted to but feels is off limits.

BLOCKED by Heather Long. Bad-boy right winger, Archer Durham needs to clean up his reputation. He becomes involved with pop star Hoshi Sato.

FULL CONTACT by Andie J. Christopher. Left winger, Anders Sorenson goes to Thunderbay Cove in Northern Minnesota. His teammates put a $150,000 bounty on his virginity.

COURAGE by Lena Hart. Coach Mason “The Rage” Courage fights to keep his marriage.

RANSOM by Nana Malone. Right Wing, Ransom Cox is stranded in a cabin in Hope, NY, with his high school crush, Lexa Carlisle. RANSOM is a fun romance.

CAGED by Virginia Nelson. Right Winger, Oliver “Ollie” Tremblay felt obligated to spend his day with the Cup in his hometown. Having bad memories, he left the town as soon as he could. He is reunited with his childhood crush, Maisie Miller. I like how the story flashed back and forth between the past and present.

THE WARM UP by Xio Axelrod. Defenseman, Constantine Zimin just won the Cup, but it is bittersweet because he has no one to celebrate it with. His twin sister died ten years ago; his parents couldn’t make it, and his best friend / teammate Jonas was in the hospital with a concussion. He heads home to Philly where he meets nurse, Sujarta Meriwether.

HOT ON ICE is an amazing read. Fourteen of the authors were new to me. The authors I was familiar with were: Katie Kenyhercz, Susan Scott Shelley, Desiree Holt, and Heather Long. I highly recommend this anthology to anyone that enjoys sports romances. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

I freely chose to review the ARC titled Courage by Lena Hart as I am a huge fan. Courage is on of the stories in the Hot on Ice anthology, and I immediately fell in love with Mason Courage and his former beauty queen wife. I never thought twice about what the team's wives and family went through with their husbands missing for days a weeks at time and felt sorry for Mason when he had to choose between being the coach of the Cajun Rage hockey team or being there for his wife and kids and letting go of the promise he made to his deceased dad. What did he do when his wife said that she wanted a divorce and see that every eligible man was waiting to snatch her up?

My Review is featuring "Bear Naked" by Katie Kenyhercz....

Book Description...

BEAR NAKED, Katie Kenyhercz - First Nations defense man Bear Thompson wants to spend his day with the Cup back home on the reserve, but first he has to convince his childhood sweetheart and current band chief Aria Paul to give him another chance and that letting the media in won't be the end of the world. The last thing Aria wants to do is fall back in love with the man who broke her heart and left her in the dust, but old feelings spark new ones, and when Bear sets his sights on a goal, it's only a matter of time.

"Hot on Ice".... [Bear Naked] by Katie Kenyhercz

My Thoughts....

Will these two Bear Thompson and Aria Paul finally get their HEA? They had know each other but circumstances had caused one to leave. I found this was a beautifully written story of how what will be will be. Now, it may take a while for all of it to work out as it was for these to but in the end well you will just have to pick up this good read by the author to see how this will all finally come out for Bear and Aria. It will not be a easy road for these two for they both had so much going on in the present life. Who will be willing to change their situation? I found this story somewhat predicable but still a well written one that will definitely keep your attention all the way to the end. It will be quite interesting to see if Bear and Aria will finally get their HEA? Again you will just have to pick up this read to see how it all will all come out.
