Fast paced. Well written.

There is a Pinch of Humor and a Dash of Suspense.
A Dollop of Romance well blended with a Handful of Steamy Scenes.
In other words, A Fun read.

Some scenes were a bit jumpy.
There is definitely room for improvement.

I loved the characters and enjoyed the story enough that I will be continuing the series.
Hoping it is better or atleast just as good as this one.

4.25 Stars!

I am happy to say this one is even better than the first.
There is still room for improvement.
Some of the suspense scenes are a bit jumpy.

The main characters interactions were often hilarious. From the start they had me laughing out loud.
The adult scenes, In My Opinion, were steamier than the 1st book!
The romance was a bit of a slow burn for Sienna, but Andrew knew his heart was in trouble from the moment he met her.
Some of the actions and thoughts of the characters left me scratching my head. Which means I found them a bit foolish and that detracted from the story.
The suspense was interesting & I enjoyed it for the most part. However, it was a big jump on the wrap up. That area definitely needed more detail & to be slowed down.

In conclusion, a very fun and fast paced read. Without a doubt worth continuing this series.
If the trend of each book being better than the one before it, I am a happy camper!

My least favorite of this series so far.
I liked Jack a lot, but Blakely drove me nuts. She is supposed to be a highly intelligent psychologist but has way to many TSTL moments.

The scenes were very jumpy and often felt forced, contrived in this one.
The pace was off.
There was no real humor.
The relationship between Blakely and Jack was unconvincing. I came off saccharine for who Jack is.

There were some good moments. It started off well. Suds and Lucky's characters are brought in & I liked what little bit we saw of them.
The adult intimate scenes ran the gamut from Steamy Hot to mediocre.
Same with the suspense/crime.

Since I have enjoyed every other book in this series so far I will continue.
The is actually a 2nd book in Jack and Blakely's story.
Hopefully it will be back on track.

Ms. Alden needs a good editor and beta readers.
With that her books would be between a solid 4 and 5 star.
So much potential.

2.75 Stars???
Maybe.
Idk. Can't make up my mind.
Why.
The potential is amazing.
The errors are copious.
The characters are lovable.
The flow of writing is often sporadic.
The steamy adult scenes are mostly hot but the flow sometimes got in the way.
The author seriously needs a good editor and beta readers.

I have decided on 2.5 stars which rounds down to 2 stars.

#6 Lucky II

Slightly better than the last.
The series went downhill from the 1st book.
The potential is there but way too many things get in the way.
The dialogue is often juvenile.
The flow is sporadic.
Typos & errors.
The author has talent but! She really needs an editor not afraid to use the blue pencil! And great beta readers that can help with the flow of her stories.

Having second thoughts about this author
Lots of typos and other errors.
They are so bad they pull you out of the story.

Other problems I have with the stories. Kind of sluggish and boring.

I have no idea how co-authors do it. But I've read two co-authored books in the span of a week. And they both read seamlessly. Dark Vortex is a solid read for the paranormal romance fan. I liked the elemental concept of witch and warlock powers, as well as how the authors used said powers to create heated love scenes. I didn't really understand the need for mates to fight prior to consummation, although I did appreciate the acknowledgment of the danger of wielding great magical power carelessly and inexpertly. There are many characters in this book, some of which I would've liked to know more about. Zoe, the heroine, had a lot to deal with and her issues and concerns made a lot of sense. Jack's issues, on the other hand, wasn't as evenly addressed or as understandable as Zoe's. Thus, I wish the book was a tad longer. There were some scenes that ended too quickly and would've been better if developed more. Overall, the novel is well-written with nice scenes of magic and several scenes of intimacy that I always appreciate in a romance novel.

The author did a superb job creating a very enjoyable and strong heroine (Lady Ann) and hero (Marcus). The relationship between the two send sparkles all over at every turn of pages in this delicious book. All characters are very well constructed and the medieval environment is described in rich details. We feel ourselves in the middle of the story, cheering for our heroine and hero. This is a story of love, betrayals, misunderstandings, lust, insecurity, basically all the good ingredients that will keep the reader entertained for hours.
I recommend this book to all readers who enjoy a very well written romance. They will not be disappointed.
I received this book from the author. I was not requested to post a positive review. Opinion expressed here is my own.

D. Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review

Most medieval novels don't offer up a steamy romance theme; but then, How To Train Your Knight isn't your usual historical novel, but offers a gripping love story set in 1276 that opens with the bang of a screaming woman accosting Sir Marcus Blackwell, a holy crusader forced into a marriage with a foul-tempered widow.

Lies, ladies, she-witches, murder and love are vividly portrayed as characters are well-developed and dialogue and description nicely done to capture the sounds, scents, feel and lingo of Medieval times (without resorting to confusing vernacular, which makes for an exceptionally smooth read).

Where other romances would fall into modern description, How To Train Your Knight stays true to its times, tailoring its graphic sexual encounters with a sense of the decorum and trappings of Medieval times. From the period clothing of the era which is removed with a different touch ("...finally he undid the leather ties holding the three sheaves, and her knives clunked to the floor.") to a woman's acceptance of the pleasure involved in making babies (which doesn't translate to the usual confession to a priest if a husband is involved), Stella Marie Alden excels at presenting powerful protagonists who both express their sexuality and discover riches of the heart in the process.

Because romance is the key, binding factor in How To Train Your Knight, audiences should be genre readers looking for a healthy dose of history to spice the steamy interludes. These factors contribute to a powerful story line that is as much about sexual awakening and love as it is about the process of becoming a powerful partner and surviving the medieval world.
