Ho comprato questo libretto a Casalvelino, convinto che fosse un fumetto; galeotta fu la mensola dell’edicola. Per poi capire che si tratta di una serie di gialli (non il mio genere) per ragazzini (e questo già è meglio). Ho palleggiato questo libretto per qualche mese e poi è arrivato il momento, molte letture impegnative richiedevano un po' di stretching di lettura. Sherlock Holmes, Arsenio Lupin e Irene Adler sono tre ragazzini che si incontrano nel su della Francia per una vacanza estiva. I primi rossori, le prime grandi amicizie, le prime complicità, i primi dissidi con i genitori. Ma tre persone del genere non potevano che trovarsi subito davanti un delitto, il primo delitto, un uomo assassinato e gettato in mare; ed iniziare così il percorso delle rispettive vite che li avrebbe resi famosi. E’ un libretto molto semplice, scritto in maniera quasi elementare, ma è evidente che la premessa è il target di riferimento. La storia è piacevole, estremamente lineare, la conclusione non scontata; ma manca un vero thriller, insomma il tono è sempre medio. Che dire, galeotta fu la mensola, ma a volte è bene frequentare i galeotti.½

Mi piacciono molto i personaggi. Sono giovani, cari e molto divertenti. Invece, Sherlock Holmes è un po' troppo tonto nonostante la sua età e Irene Adler, il personaggio principale, non ha abbastanza carattere. Ella ha troppo paura per una ragazza che diventerà una grande criminale. Arsène Lupin è il mio favorito; è il più intelligente e comico degli adolescenti. La scrittura è bella e perfetta per l'età degli lettori. Spero che un bel giorno capiremo i commenti dI Irene relativamente al suo passato e la sua ex amicizia col Sherlock e Lupin… Sono per lo meno intriganti. La storia è rapida e non ha momenti lenti. L'intreccio è interessante. Inoltre, il libro è cosparso di umorismo e i capitoli sono corti e davvero ben scritti.

La familia de Irene se ha mudado a Évreux, en Normandía. No es más que el primero de una serie de acontecimientos inquietantes que Irene, Sherlock y Lupin tratarán de aclarar. Los jóvenes, de hecho, acabarán sabiendo de la existencia de una cripta secreta en el subsuelo de París, donde se halla una antigua reliquia que, según dicen, tiene un inmenso valor…

I enjoy Sherlock Holmes, and have read all of Arthur Conan Doyle's Holmes stories, watched several versions of Holmes on film and TV (and am equally judgy about them, too!) have read stories by people trying to emulate Doyle's style, and even read books about alternate Sherlock types. In the grand stew of Sherlock, this was not very satisfying to me.

This is written to be a middle reader, but is lacking in the fun department. It is too staid for a children's book, but too juvenile for an adult read. It was not offensively bad, just meh. I could not finish the book, and am not interested in the rest of the series.

I am very picky about my Holmes. Not recommended.

Por eso, a modo de juego, Irene le propone que analice una serie de sucesos inexplicables. Y, como era de esperar, el sentido lógico de Holmes identifica un siniestro e invisible hilo que los une. Así
comienza un desafío con un misterioso genio criminal que conducirá a Sherlock, Lupin e Irene a una fulgurante revelación.

La Navidad se acerca. Irene, Sherlock y Arsène están en Londres. Y justo cuando el humor de Holmes empieza a ensombrecerse sin remedio, como siempre le ocurre durante dicha festividad, un misterio repentino arrastra a los tres amigos a vivir una temeraria aventura: el director del British Museum ha sido asesinado en circunstancias enigmáticas y los periódicos hablan sobre una oscura maldición que parece tener sus raíces en el antiguo Egipto.

Me hubiera gustado saber cómo se conocieron Lupin y Sherlock. El libro está narrado en primera persona desde el punto de vista de Irene, así que tiene sentido que lo que veamos sea cómo ella conoce a ambos, pero podrían haber añadido alguna explicación de cómo se conocieron los dos chicos.

El misterio me gustó, aunque queda por resolver cómo llegó una carta de una baraja al libro del muerto. Puede que la falta de explicaciones sea intencionada, pero es casi como si faltara algo, ya que es esta carta en cuestión lo que le da la pista final a Sherlock.

De momento he leído cuatro de las seis novelas de esta serie que se han publicado en español y ésta es la que más me ha gustado hasta ahora.

Así como las otras me resultaron a veces un poco predecibles, lo que no hizo que no disfrutara leyéndolas, esta novela me sorprendió mucho, porque creí que la solución al misterio iba a ser algo completamente distinto a lo que fue. Explicar más detalladamente qué me gustó tanto del misterio sería un gran spoiler, porque la naturaleza de ese misterio, que fue lo que me gustó, no se desvela hasta casi el final.

I didn't find the mystery particularly interesting. However, there are things hinted in this book that are much more mysterious than the case that the three friends (or four, as Horace decides to help them instead of trying to stop them) solve. Horace's identity is the most interesting. We don't get all the information about him, although I hope that the next book sheds some more light on this character, but it becomes clear that he is more than just some man who works for the Adlers.

Even though the case is not very engaging, this book has a much more mature feeling than the previous five, especially towards the end, when the three teenagers realise that the case may be a bit too much for their age.

It is a book worth reading if you like this series, but don't expect something extraordinary.

The childhood of Sherlock Holmes, viewed through the eyes of a young Irene Adler. A fun historical romp, but I'm not sure how I feel about this new backstory.

This middle grade novel, translated from the Italian, has the feel of an author-mill product in many ways -- the pattern of writing and plotting is pat, there are inconsistencies throughout -- yet the book itself has many charms. The combination of Sherlock Holmes, Arsene Lupin, and Irene Adler as a teen trio set on solving murders is an engaging premise and this volume, the first of a multi-volume series, introduces the characters with some fun details. Sherlock is just beginning to show his adult personality, Irene is already relatively self-possessed for a 12-year-old, and Lupin remains somewhat of a mystery, but it is a pleasure to see them all interact as young people.

The murder mystery plot has a classic feel and engages with many familiar tropes, including rooftop chases, heroes in disguise, street gangs of raggedy young criminals, etc. There are some seemingly random side plots and personal notes from Irene's first-person perspective that may play out in future books, but in this one feel forced or unnecessary. For parents and other adult readers, such distractions -- along with the inconsistencies and the occasionally simplistic dialogue -- may irritate, but I suspect that the much-younger target audience will be engaged in the mystery from the moment our heroic trio finds the body on the beach all the way through to the oh-so-Victorian drawing room reveal. Not a great book, but a fun read for the middle-grader with a literary eye or a fondness for steampunk-level history/mysteries.

I received an e-galley of this from NetGalley and I really enjoyed it! This book was so cute! It's always nice to have a different take on such a classic character. Plus, it was super quick to get through. I read this after I finished James Dashner's The Death Cure as a "make me feel better about the world again", and let me tell you, this book totally helped.

So, long story short, read this. :)

I stumbled across this book when searching through NetGalley's available titles looking for something quite different. I've recently become obsessed with the BBC drama Sherlock and was very interested in this middle-grade mystery about a young Sherlock Holmes.

While this book is just being released in the US this February, it was originally an Italian title and part of a series that already has four books. The book is told from Irene Adler's point of view as she looks back at her childhood and the time her and Sherlock first met, one summer in the beach-side town of Saint-Malo. Unfortunately, the book lost my interest very early on. The "big" mystery was very slow paced which took away any potential suspense.

I wasn't impressed by the writing, it felt narrated rather than seen through the eyes of our protagonist, Irene. There was also an extreme over use of exclamation marks. It was as if everything that came out of Irene's mouth was super important! I began imaging that she didn't just speak, but rather yelled everything.

For a book about Sherlock Holmes I felt we hardly got to know him at all. He was quiet and mysterious, which I know are some of his famous character traits. I just wish he wasn't such a stranger to the reader.

Hopefully the target audience enjoys this book better than I did. As for me, I won't be carrying on with the series.
