The book tells the story about a village that is too rocky for farming and surrounded by a sea that is too rough for fishing. Therefore, the inhabitants are making baskets - big ones, tiny ones, heavy ones,...One day a really strong wind appears and does not go away. The inhabitants worked together intensively, so that the wind leaves the village and they could continue their lives in peace. To fight the wind, they do what they can best- making baskets. After many attempts they could calm down the wind and live happy again. ( ) This is a story of a village who everyone knew how to make baskets in all shapes and sizes. One day a wind storm comes through and wont stop. It is blowing everything around so they start making a basket as big as they can. But still does not hold the wind. A little boy made a tiny basket with a feather and a cattail fluff, and thistledown in it, the wind thought how cozy that might be and calmed down. The village where Kip and Elsa has poor conditions for fishing and growing crops, but one thing they do have the resources for is making beautiful baskets of all shapes and sorts. In this villiage, the children are taught from a young age the art of weaving. The village was a peaceful and happy place until the mighty wind grew stronger and stronger. Parents tied their kids to trees and their dogs to cows.
