Jack is a walking fossil. The only human among a sea of clones. It's been hundreds of years since humanity died off in the slow plague, leaving the clones behind to carry on human existence. Over time they've perfected their genes, moving further away from the imperfections of humanity. But if they really are perfect, why did they create Jack? While Jack longs for acceptance, Althea-310 struggles with the feeling that she's different from her sisters. Her fascination with Jack doesn't help. As Althea and Jack's connection grows stronger, so does the threat to their lives. What will happen if they do the unthinkable and fall in love?… (plus d'informations)

I thought this was a very interesting storyline. Only one human trying to figure out how to fit in with a bunch of clones who have been living together for hundreds of years. The clones have everything perfected, from their rituals to their food to their communication. Jack doesn't really belong and he keeps getting into skiffs with others and his fate comes down to the Council. Althea-310 takes an interest in him and tries to help him find his way. Even though it leaves her life at risk. It was very interesting learning about the clones and what they considered defects in humans. You really see that they do have issues and imperfections that they don't realize. It's science fiction and I recommend it. ( )

This book was a start - stop - start again - stop again - eventually finish for me.

This Sci-Fi story is set in a world where humans have been extinct for a good 300 years. In this world of cloned GMO-humans the only non-GMO human is different. He's not the only one though. Even seemingly identical clones are different too, or aren't they?

What I liked: the world-building, the idea of cloned generations based on only nine people.

What bugged me: the pairing - in a world of clones, why dedicate such a large amount of the book to sex. Pairing/sex is unnecessary.

This review is based on an ARC provided by the publishers.
