A very interesting blend of textile history and women's history. The author provides an overview of the Mormon migrations and a short biography of each quiltmaker, and discusses the fabrics and block patterns used in the quilts.

[Preface] These were the words I read in Wallace Stegner's well-respected book as I began the research for the Mormon Migration Quilt Project

[Introduction] And so it was.

In the early years of migration (1830-39), the Saints focused on finding an appropriate location for building their Zion on what was then the western edge of Anglo-American settlement.
