Narrator nailed Barrowman and Eccleston. Good story too. ( ) The Night of the Whisper is a quick, fun, read. It follows Rose, Nine, and Captain Jack on one of their many travels through time and space. I listened to this as an audio and it was only an hour long. Trying to fit in some last minute quick reads to meet (and possibly exceed) my goal for the year. This is definitely a good pick for fans of Doctor Who. The Ninth Doctor, Rose, and Jack Harkness are investigating unusual goings-on in New Vegas in the 23rd century. Rose is undercover as a waitress in a cafe run by local mobster Cyrus Wolfsbane, a literal wolf-being, and Jack has credentials as a reporter for the Daily Galaxy. Perfect covers to investigate what is going on with The Whisper, a masked vigilante who is so named because he whispers to his targets that “justice will be served”. This is a two-handed audio drama, with Nicholas “Voice of the Daleks” Briggs doing most of the voices and John Schwab contributing the voice of James McNeil, the chief of police on New Vegas. I enjoyed Briggs’s impression of Nine in particular. Jack was a bit more difficult because of the American accent. Wolfsbane had a Russian sort of accent for some reason, which was comedic but not a dealbreaker. I really liked the comic-book vibe of this one for some reason; stories like this and The Return of Doctor Mysterio cheer me up immensely. It probably stands alone a little bit more within this audio series — The Destiny of the Doctor series was published in conjunction with Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary and all of these stories are linked. The link to the rest comes from the Eleventh Doctor communicating with Nine unexpectedly to tell him about a key point to keep the timeline intact. I do also love whenever the Doctors interact with each other, especially if they make snarky comments about their incarnations. Recommended if you’ve been listening to this series — if you don’t have them, get the whole set. This is also good for Nine fans. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
