This journey seemed to take forever for me as a listener, just as it did for the bears. I am not the target age group, but do listen along w/my younger son who is nonverbal & doesn't give much feedback. I got it as part of a recorded set Return To The Wild Books 1-6, thinking Book 1 would be the beginning of the tale. It wasn't, but fortunately the story was easy enough to follow along. The strengths of this book is showing the amount of effort it takes to get along as a group, which would be a good skill for kids to learn. I liked how some of the bears were portrayed as bursting into rage at a moments notice, just as I'd imagine a real bear could become enraged. Yet they usually were able to be distracted or talked out of any real fighting...in fact, we learn that killing your enemy is not approved.
I admit to not liking Ujurak very much, & couldn't believe the patience 2 of the bears showed him. It was obvious to me he was a braggart & not trustworthy, seeking to scam others.
I heard this as an audiobook. We returned the audiobook without listening to books 2-6 ( )

Seekers is a story of four bears traveling through the cold north trying to get home. In the group, is one brown bear, one black bear, and two white bears. The story is about them learning to get along together while they all seek their dreams. It's also a story about believing in a higher power that will help them when times are tough.

I received this book thru first reads giveaway at goodreads and am not the targeted age group by more than 30 years.
I also have not read any of the author's other works. I am generally a fan of animal books (hence entering the goodreads giveaway).

Synopsis at this site accurate, so not redoing. I liked the book, writing, storyline and characters. I did have trouble getting into at first; but, then it picked up pace and engrossing enough to look forward to next entry in series. ( )

This is a great, fast paced read for upper elementary and early middle school. I'm not usually a fan of animal protagonist stories, but I like the perspective in this and the Hunter series. It's an amalgam of animal behavior translated into human language.

I like the ecology and environmental thread that runs through this series. Although the struggles are surreal in this story, they do mirror challenges that real bears are struggling with in their shrinking habitats.

An underlying theme that runs through the story is how bears from different backgrounds can work together and become so close that they seem unusual or foreign to their own kind. This presents several times between the two polar bears. One who has bonded with other types of bears and one who is just beginning to do so. The connections between the bears reflect human society, especially in youth.
