I read this book a couple years ago, I think it was published about 10 or so years ago.
The fmc goes to a sub/dom club to find a dom, there she runs into her dead husband's best friend (the mmc) and he becomes her dom. He teaches her about being a sub.
There are grief themes.
The dead husband had an abusive childhood. He had a sister that appears in the book.
The book is part of a trilogy.
Near the end of the book the fmc gets in a car accident by avoiding to run over a kid, ends in the hospital and the mmc visits her there.
Groveling themes in the end.
