Found: Children's picture book where girl brings father for Show and Tell.

I read this book as a child in the 1970's. There's Show and Tell at school,and the main character,an African-American schoolgirl keeps trying to come up with something to bring in.Each time she thinks she has a great idea (like an umbrella),one of her classmates beats her to it.
She eventually decides to bring her father. He is a big hit and all the other students excitedly want to bring in their dads.
The students are kindergartners,1st or 2nd grade. I can't remember .It had lovely illustrations, done in a light wash.
