I thought we should have a thread about the Derby, which is coming up on Saturday.

Are you going to watch it live on TV? Or live in person??

Are you going to or hosting a Derby Party?

Who do you think will win?

Yeah, Derby!! I can't wait!! I will be going to Keeneland to watch the simulcast. My lucky boyfriend has a pass and will get to be there in person...grrr...I can't help but root for Pyro and I've heard alot of buzz about Big Brown.

Do you think the filly has a chance?

DFED -- I grrrr with you at your boyfriend ;) I am watching at home with a few friends. We are going to have hot brown sandwiches and mint juleps with strawberry shortcake for afters.

I am liking Colonel John more and more. Got to love the CA horse and he's been training well on the dirt. I also like Monba (mostly because he's out of an Easy Goer mare) and Big Brown. I don't know about Eight Belles; usually when a filly wins it she's already run and proven herself against the boys. It would be awesome if she could do it, though!

RIP Eight Belles. She ran a good race.

That is just so sad. I hate it when these beautiful horses die on the track. My sympathies go out to all who knew her and worked with her.

As her trainer said, Eight Belles "went out in glory." She proved she belonged in the big race with the big boys. The Derby gods are fickle things ...

Wow--really takes the shine off today's race.

So beautiful, so powerful, so fragile.

Frodo Baggins was destroyed at the Rolex this week after a bad fall over a jump. He and his rider (who was also seriously injured) were short listed for the Olympic team.

A bad week for horse sports,

Streamsong - I have to agree with you. Such a shame all of these great horses had to be put down. Eight Belles was truly amazing in the Derby (thought she might win it there for awhile).
