Restoring a Library with Collections

I realize this request is not the first time it has been brought up. I just had an experience which I had managed to avoid for a couple of years.

I made a mess of my library through an inadvisable import and needed to recreate my library from a previously saved full library export. The problem was that I had been using multiple different collections and the only way to accomplish the recreation was to create separate imports from each of my collections.

After a couple of hours, I have been successful, but why was it necessary?

Please create a backup and restore for LT which doesn't require Excel maneuvers.

Welcome to the club! I'm surprised you were able to do as well as you were - there are very few importable fields, you're fortunate that everything you care about was in one of them.

I requested a full "restore from backup" in 2016. Still waiting.

>2 lorax: Do you have any idea if this is on the schedule for the release which is dribbling out in pieces?

The most frustrating part of my experience with LT is the secretive approach to the development process. I can understand why they don't want to put a date on any new/improved features, but why not respond to the user requests in some ways.

I have made a few requests that I think would actually help many users but there isn't even a reliable way to discuss them with a person.

I am now 89 years old and I am to the stage where I can't afford to wait on any improvements so I am just doing what I can using Excel.

bnielson has helped me a lot in some of my analyses, at his own time and expense.

How in the world can it be that there has been 7 YEARS since this issue was addressed?

Well, the issue hasn't really been addressed. For a while, Librarything didn't have sufficient development resources, so I understood nothing would happen until they could hire more staff.
Since then, development has resumed to some extent and new features have been deployed. But we have zero information about the possible priority assigned to this one by Tim & coworkers. I really wish they would communicate more about their roadmap.

JoeB1934:

Feel free to take a look at that thread. There has been zero input from developers. Non-technical staff have said it's "on their list", for whatever that means.

I agree 100% that the lack of communication about the development process is frustrating, and it wasn't always this way! Early on Tim and the developers were much more active on Talk and we could interact with them directly, but lately they seem to have put all the responsibility for that on non-technical staff.
