Kind of changing up the famous like from Scream.

It doesn't matter what subgenre or how old.

The Man in the Moss by Phil Rickman

Edited to add: No, maybe my favorite, scariest book is actually The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor LaValle.

Mh, it's hard choice but I really like the Cirque du Freak series by Darren Shan. It's children's fiction but still very scary and deep

It's a tie. My favorite horror novel is still Misery, because it practically goes against all the writing tips and advice I ever got and still manages to be so freaky.

My favorite book, however, is also Uzumaki from Junji Ito. Beyond the increasingly unsettling story, I have yet to see anyone who's got the same gift of disturbing detail in their art that this man has.
