Dumbledore is what now?

Did anyone else hear that Dumbledore is gay? Of course you did. Is this just a rumour or is it true? I really don't know what to think about this one. What does everyone else think?

I heard that, too. It was said by J.K. Rowling during a question and answer session, and since she is the author, obviously it is true.
Personally, I have no problem with him being gay. Considering the series is over, I think it is a minor and slightly irrelevant point. The only thing that worries me is that people might try and pollute the relationship he had with Harry. Just because he was gay does not mean he was a pedophile!!!!

That's a very good point, I hadn't thought of that. I hate how some people tend to lump pedophiles and homosexuals together. Very infuriating!

I think Rowling may have just said this to satisfy the desirings of her fans.... possibly. I think its just crazy and stupid, espicially b/c she said this AFTER the books were published. It makes me think that she really is only doing it for her fans, and that she really never had it all planned out like that.

-5 I'm sure she knows all types of things about her characters that she never had a chance to reveal in the books. You have to create well-rounded people in order to be able to write about them convincingly, but that doesn't mean you have to provide big lists of all their characteristics in the text. Now before the series was completed she wouldn't want to reveal this information, as she wouldn't quite know if it was going to come up in the course of one of the remaining books or if it would give people a hint of later events she wanted to conceal. But once the books are over, if people ask, she has every right to divulge information about her characters that she knows but never wrote about.

The only reason this would be a problem is if people harbor some biases about the trait she is revealing. If she had said Dumbledore was really more of a dog person than a cat person, I'm sure nobody would have questioned her right to say so or her intentions, regardless of lack of textual evidence. The only reason anyone would question her intentions about revealing Dumbledore's sexuality is that they have biases about homosexuals that lead them to believe that Dumbledore's behavior is somehow not congruent with their mental image of a homosexual. To say there is no evidence that Dumbledore is a homosexual is pointless, as there is also no evidence that he is heterosexual. Clearly romantic relationships were not important to the man during the time of his life that we as readers are familiar with.

Dumbledore IS gay, I saw it on an interview (both on T.V and online) this is what she said about "it",
"A fan, during a book signing, asked me if Dumbledore had ever been in love before and who was the woman. I said to her, 'Actually, I've always thought of Dumbledore gay.' It seriously looked like she wanted to slap me but that's how I always pictured him in my head."
Also, for HP movie 7, the scriptwriter put in a passage about how Dumbledore recalling a past female love but J.K Rowling scratched it out and told him that Dumbledore was gay .. don't you guys scouer the internet for goss on HP? I do =P

to answer message 13 = it's not really the fact that Dumbledore is gay, it's just that it was so unexpected. I never thought as Dumbledore as gay or heterosexual, I just thought that he was too busy to look for a relationship (gay or heterosexual).

My dad is sitting hear reading our conversation and he says Dumbledoors theme song should be I kissed a girl. (so embarrasing)

ha ha very funny. I played piano for 4.5 years(4 and a half if you don't know what .5 is (jk)) And i've been playng flute for 4 years,piccolo,rock keyboard, gand a little bit of guitar.
