I know that this group focuses on identifying titles and authors of books whose titles have been forgotten. I'm after an old mass-market paperback edition of William Goldman's "The Princess Bride." I can't find any thumbnail of the cover of the edition I'm after—which shows Princess Buttercup riding sidesaddle on a horse, wearing a steeple headdress, and winking at the reader. I bought it in the early 1980s, I imagine, and lost it around the time the movie came out (1987). So this edition appeared well before the movie. It might very well be a costly collectible now, but I'll find out once I have the correct data (publisher, date, etc.).

How sure are you about the winking part? The Ballantine/Del Rey cover was released in about 1984 and has Princess Buttercup riding sidesaddle and wearing a steeple headdress, but I think no wink. This same image was also cut out and used on a couple of other editions as well (one with a blue border and an embossed version on the 25th anniversary edition).

Looks like this:

I have this cover. And it's a paperback version.

Thank you both for the info. I'm no longer sure about the wink, but that is the cover I'm after . . . so . . . on to the next stage of the quest!
