January 2015 National Readathon Day ReadaThing: LOGBOOK

I'm starting this early because I may be a few minutes late to kickoff my own Readathing :) (Sorry, I forgot I have an errand to run right around that time.)

Here's where we will post what we are reading (or have read) during the ReadaThing, fun things about where we are reading or what we are eating/drinking while we read, etc. Also a place to ask each other questions about our books, etc.

I never posted a "what I plan to read" thread, so feel free to post that info here before you read.

Kickoff is in a few hours!!

I plan to continue reading Louise Erdrich's Tales of Burning Love and/or start a mini-binge on books by Kate DiCamillo (a local author who's been in the news lately). Yesterday I picked up Because of Winn-Dixie, The Magician's Elephant, and The Tiger Rising in the Children's section of my local library.

Okay, I made it home in time to get things started. I've brewed a cup of tea and fed the cat (in the hopes that she will let me read for an hour (unlikely)).

I'm reading London Dawn a historical fiction about WWII,
written by Canadian author Murray Pura .
Book 3 of The Danforths of Lancashire. Very well done Downton Abbeyish. Worth the read as I've completed first 2 in the series earlier...

I found the timezone converter helpful in deciding where I was at for beginning the Readathing tonite - started at 5 pm cst here on the Canadian prairies. Cuppa tea on the go :)

Finally got some time to read and started Nightshifted by Cassie Alexander - which I got as an ARC (don't remember where - it's not an ER book, I don't think). The series is now up to 5 books, I think... Interesting, though the protagonist makes some seriously stupid choices.

But tomorrow I'll be doing a workshop all day, probably until 8 pm, so I doubt I'll manage any reading time (sigh). If I get some time on the way or in a break, I'll be reading Season of the Sun by Catherine Coulter - my current ebook (not bringing a physical book, I'll have enough to carry).

I'm here to begin my first shift - 8 am to 10 am. I'll be starting off w/Into the Woods

I am in the middle of The Time of the Hero and hope to finish it sometime this weekend. The weather here in NYC is crap, so it's a perfect day to stay inside curled up in the recliner with my book and a cup of coffee.

I am in bed with my cat at my side, getting ready to continue Intern: A Doctor's Initiation. Interesting, but not enthralling. I am halfway through.

I read a bit early this morning with my tea, though I forgot to note the time (approx. 7:30-8:30am CST) so I'll leave it in the no-timeline category. I started Pilgrim at Tinker Creek by Annie Dillard. I can't believe I've never read this book! Referenced in MANY other books I've read, so decided I should finally read it . . . marvelous descriptions of nature by someone curious enough to investigate the world around them and skillful enough to write about it.

Getting started... I am rereading Middlemarch as my main selection. I am on page 158 of Book 1 (Miss Brooke). Starting the water boiling for some green(raw) puer tea - Seven Cups Special Order Cake 2008

I am reading the The Paying Guests while enjoying a hot cup of or and tea with honey and an orange Prim cookie. We are in the mist of a snowstorm, so I too am enjoying a quite day of reading.

Middlemarch Book 2, Chapter 1 introduction verse

LucindaLibr. I am 70 pages into it. My first impression is that it is a slow moving novel. Little details of the characters are revealed slowly over the pages. My library has what they refer to as the " express read." These books can only be checked out for 7days and cannot be renewed or reserved. It was an impulse selection, but one that I am enjoying.

All done! I read about 100 pages of The Invention of Wings while preparing dinner. I may go back to it now that the pot roast is simmering.

Got to page 256 in Middlemarch. I am enjoying my reread of this book very much. Thanks LucindaLibri for bringing the National Readathon to our attention!

Melting mozza sticks snacking ...

Have spent most of my listening time today with The Traveler by John Twelve Hawks (which for some bizarre reason touchstones to Lolita automatically when using the UK spelling!). Not overly enjoying it - although it's a creepy concept with regard to today's society.

I read on and off during the "official" Noon-4pm Readathon. I started the afternoon sitting in the sun in this spot in the dining room (in a rocking chair which is usually reserved for the cat).



Read more of Tales of Burning Love which I'm enjoying quite a bit.

Took breaks for lunch, a shower, and a nap . . . though I was "listening" to The Old Curiosity Shop by Charles Dickens during my nap, so kind of still reading :)

Looks like I'm not the only one who ran out of steam on this one :) I continued in Tales of Burning Love from 4-6 pm CST, took a break for dinner, then never made it back to reading. Still happy with the amount of reading I accomplished today.

Polished off The Damnation Affair last night and made a good start on The Red Plague Affair.
