For most of us who love old books, we have occasion to notice how there aren't as many bookstores as there were in the 1990s. There are also not as many book fairs as there once were. Buying online is nice but there's nothing quite like making a purchasing decision while browsing among thousands of quality books. Antiquarian book fairs offer this opportunity.
The next of these fairs is The Pasadena Antiquarian Book, Print, Photo, and Paper Fair on Saturday January 31, 2015 (10am-6pm) and Sunday February 1, 2015 (11am-4pm) at the Pasadena Convention Center, Exhibit Hall B, 300 E. Green Street, Pasadena, CA 92201.
If you are within driving distance of Pasadena, I highly recommend visiting a book fair like this one in Pasadena. It will be larger than many since it is considered to be a "shadow fair" to the California International Antiquarian Book Fair in Oakland on the following weekend. Many buyers and sellers come to this fair to preview items that will be seen in Oakland. Some sellers buy at this fair and offer the items at an advanced price the next weekend.
Book Fairs, like Bookstores, are disappearing. These fairs will only continue if people attend and purchase at them. Make a difference. Say "hello" as a LibraryThing user, even if you don't look for the kinds of books we offer.
