I found a story from the author of Tom Hood. The story is called "Shadow of a Ghost", written in 1869. But I'm can not find any information about the author: neither a bibliography nor biographies - nothing.

Dictionary of Literary Biography compiled by D.C. Browning list Tom Hood 1799-1845 and his son Thomas Hood 1835-1874. The son wrote 6 novels and wrote poetry. He also started Tom Hood's Annual in 1867. The son is also listed in The Stanford companion to Victorian Fiction by John Sutherland.
