I thought we could use a general message board for a hodge podge of items. Here's a story I thought you might find interesting about rare books of scientific discovery. http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/johns-hopkinss-eureka-rare-books-i...

Someone posted this to my facebook page and I assume it's real, a 15th century manuscript with inky little cat prints. Seems they've always like to walk on books. https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=10151738035014348&set=a.224211574...

CBS' 60 minutes aired this episode Christmas Eve https://www.cbsnews.com/news/the-men-saving-history-from-isis/ about two monks rescuing manuscripts from Isis. Not all were religious texts, many were histories and records from as far back as Roman times. Some interesting observations from an eastern perspective were there such as that the Crusades instigated the backlash against Christianity and other religions in an area that was once well-integrated. There were also some histories that are missing from the western canon. Despite the monks' efforts, many thousands were incinerated by Isis and others were destroyed by air attacks from western powers. Rather than lamenting what was lost, celebrate what was saved. Merry Christmas to these brave monks.
