How many of you use book fairs to add to your collection?

If you are looking for a chance, there's one coming up on the weekend of Feb 5-6, 2011 in Pasadena. As usual, most people will be there at opening on Saturday to look for the best things the dealers have not bought from each other before the show :)

Just got back from the show a few hours ago. Too many nice things and despite my best efforts, came back with more books than I probably should have -- mostly Californiana. A very pleasant afternoon walk through. Dealers from all across the U.S., Canada, and England.

This weekend Feb 11-12, 2012 is a book fair in Pasadena again but it is the big (and often expensive) ABAA fair. I'll be shopping there; will any other LTers?

edited to correct typo as I will be shopping (not sopping, I hope) at the fair

I enjoyed both Friday & Saturday at the antiquarian book fair. I love that it was in Pasadena this year, as I was able to WALK to it! Only bought one book -- but spent many hours browsing and chatting with some of the booksellers.

We did not buy anything as it turned out. We were just there in Saturday and saw many amazing books (often with equally-amazing prices) and had some great conversations.

Bustamante may hold a non-ABAA book fair there in October.

The next Pasadena Antiquarian Book Fair hosted by Bustamante will be held on the first weekend of October 6-7. This time we've decided to take a booth (#205) rather than merely shop. If you are a book person and anywhere within reach of Pasadena, you should try to come to this event. If you do, stop by and say "hello."

In February 9-10, the "shadow" book fair will be held the weekend prior to the big San Francisco ABAA International Antiquarian Book Fair. Since the sellers at the latter show find it possible to buy inventory for resale at the "shadow" fair, it usually means that good prices can be found there.

To be sure, you will see books at these fairs that you might never see in a bookstore or online.

Here's a reminder to Los Angeles book people on LT that next weekend is the Pasadena Antiquarian Book Fair, October 6-7.

Our booth, #205, is on the first aisle on the left. Though it will be small (6x10 ft), we expect to bring up to 400-500 books, mainly juvenile series books and some Stephen King signed limited edition artist books in the Dark Tower series and some singles.

The book fair itself will have a little of almost everything that the sellers think would appeal to a book collecting crowd. On average, the books at this fair are more affordable than the ones offered at the big "International" ABAA book fair in February that alternates between San Francisco (2013) and Pasadena (2014).

We received a note that the fair will use the larger of the two main halls so I infer from this that there will be more sellers and more books than initially planned. It should be a very interesting weekend. If you are anywhere within range of Pasadena, please do attend this fair.

Bring your want/inventory lists and fill in or upgrade your collections. Discover something entirely new that you didn't expect.
