- A propos de ma bibliothèque
- I love to read just about anything good, but I am a bit of a snob when it comes to what I read. I greatly dislike chick lit and most popular fiction because it's so carelessly written (generally, of course. There are exceptions, however few).
I love poetry, especially the classical Latin poets: Virgil, Catullus, and Ovid, especially. As far as the more modern poets go, Pound, Frost, Eliot, DH Lawrence, Langston Hughes, and Sandburg can't be beat. As far as novelists go, George Eliot and the Brontes are my favorites, but I love DH Lawrence's and Thomas Hardy's work as well.
My top 5 plays:
5. Our Town by Thornton Wilder
4. King Lear by William Shakespeare
3. Othello by William Shakespeare
2. Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare
1. Equus by Peter Shaffer
My top 12 favorite books are as follows:
12. Rebecca by Daphne duMaurier
11. We Don't Live Here Anymore by Andre Dubus III
10. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
9. East of Eden by John Steinbeck
8. The Mill on the Floss by George Eliot
7. Lord of the Flies by William Golding
6. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
5. Tess of the d'Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy
4. The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy
3. The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
2. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
1. Middlemarch by George Eliot - A propos de moi
- My name is Andrea, and I'm a graduate student in English at the University of Central Florida, but soon to be pursuing a Ph.D in Classics at the Univeristy of Michigan, where I received my bachelor of arts in English. I am a bibliophile through and through, and I especially love Latin epic poetry and Victorian novels. I have a penchant for tattoos (both of the literary variety and otherwise), too, and I have one on my hip with a line from Ovid's Metamorphoses.
