A propos de ma bibliothèque
A varied sampling of the rainbow spectrum of the humanities. Informed by the classics and the greats. Filled in by the post-war critical turn. Flourished with environmental politics. Grown as inadvertent by-product of circumstance. Maintained as personal research catalogue. Organized as a call to the community commons. As Aby Warburg counseled: "The book you need is right next to the one you are looking for."
A propos de moi
I'm a reader first. A writer second. A collector third. And a thinker, on occasion. I came to books in this sequence; out of curiosity, then inspiration, then obsession, and finally application. I've been collecting for about 20 years, during which time I've worked at bookstores, gone to grad school, and taught ESL in NYC and Istanbul. I believe physical books can be used as an effective tool in experimenting with community commons and alternative forms of exchange. Books hold a value, a usufruct, that can neither be determined in monetary form, nor in direct relation to when they were made, similar to many other physical objects.
