This is a poorly organized and badly researched book about the loss of a unique vessel of the WWII French Navy. With the best will in the world, all I can say is that there is not enough evidence to be conclusive about the two major theories about the ship's loss. She was in Terrible shape mechanically, the crew seemed to be badly divided in their allegiance to the Free French forces and as the USA had just plunged into WWII, the chances for the paperwork for a serious inquiry are slim.
I favour the Collision with the tanker, both ships running on the surface without radar, and possibly the sinking was finished by the heavy bombers of the Panama Canal defences force. But if I encounter "Who Sank the Surcouf?" another book on the topic, I might well read that. But give this mess the go-by, there's not enough here.
