This is a must read for parents to be, and families that are waiting to get on the TV show SuperNanny. This is a very important topic and it's addressed here from a very biblical perspective. My kids aren't even two years old yet, and already I've seen them testing the limits of how much they can get away with. It certainly addresses how much of a challenge it is to keep the parents in control.

A good, simple book on leadership. The book has a bonus feature with each chapter heading...Young's listing of leadership characteristics, thoughts, traits, etc. Those "check lists" are worth the purchase price of the book alone!

In chapter five Young describes a Caribbean-island Christian. See if you recognize some of these folks....

"Caribbean-island Christians are those who move to a spiritual island on their own. For awhile it’s beautiful there. The sands are white, the water is clear, the palm trees sway peacefully in the breeze. They can do their own thing, with no one to bother them. One day, though, the force-five winds blow. One day the hurricane hits. One day the waves come crashing ashore. And those people are devastated by the storm. They have no one to reinforce their beliefs, no one to stand behind them and hold them up."[1]

"We aren’t meant to be Caribbean-island Christians. Do you have someone you can share your life with, someone who can come alongside you in the midst of your personal battles? Do you have someone who loves you? Do you have someone you can be in real community with and really connect with? You have to have this kind of community to live the Christian life. You have to be an active part of some local body of believers, because as an active member of a faith community, you are not going to be as vulnerable to temptation or to those force-five winds that come your way. You’ll be part of a group that backs you up and reinforces your faith."[2]
