So on the one hand, there's a narrative about documented safety issues in bioresearch labs, and it's obviously not made up. It's a real thing. It is extremely well-documented and sourced. I believe it.
But on the other hand, I am so infuriated about everything I am reading, that my mind doesn't want to believe any of it, and I find myself unable to continue reading the book at times, going a day or two without reading at all.
So yeah, this book is infuriating, because either administrative incompetence / hubris, lack of funding, fears of lawsuits, PR bullshit, something else, or all of the above is contributing to people basically rolling the dice with human life and safety.
One little thing I would change about this book (except for the very need for its existence in the first place) would be the inclusion of a few paragraphs (if not an entire chapter) at the beginning of the book detailing the type of research conducted in bioresearch labs. Let the reader determine if the safety breeches are truly "worth it," so to speak. But I think not including any rationale for the labs leads the reader to conclude that under no circumstances should BSL-3 or BSL-4 labs even exist in the first place.… (plus d'informations)
