Heaps of fun with interesting characters, and a brilliant villain in Eva! The side story with little crippled Tom was a bit over the top and preachy at times, but overall I liked Peggy.

Loads of fun - jolly schoolgirls (who play cricket rather than lacrosse/hockey!), a pair of snobs known as the "Prims" who are very much opposed to Kits and the rest of the "Crew", a mousey girl with a crush on an older one, an evil villainess who spitefully goes after the mouse, wicked gypsies, adventures in dark mines, an unfair expulsion, a run-away, and a grouchy old hermit with a missing cat. :D Not to mention lots of unintentional slash! Loved it. ;)

Maybe I'm being a bit too kind in giving this three stars, but it wasn't actually all that bad for what it was. Still, I'll stick to May Wynne's school stories from now on! I mooched this knowing nothing but the author and when it arrived, didn't think I'd ever read it. It actually turned out to be a very quick read - thick due to the paper, not the number of pages! And while it wasn't anything too amazing, nor was it all that bad. Pretty entertaining, if very old-fashioned and overly religious.Basically, sisters Patience and Rosebell Penrae are the two maids of Rosemarkie. Patience is the elder and in love with Nat, though her father wants her to marry old Joseph who's like twice her age. Rose the younger is secretly "trysting" with a young Squire, not knowing that he's really leading her along. Penrae overhears a conversation between Rose and said Squire which makes plain both sides of this, and after Rose has gone he approaches the Squire... who ends up falling off a cliff backwards.Methodist Nat gets the blame for this, as he and the Squire had an altercation a few days beforehand. Wracked with guilt that an innocent man is about to hang but not about to own up to his own part, Penrae sets about to prove Nat's innocence. The chapter where Nat is proven innocent is called Nat Is Set At Liberty. lol spoilers! And then it comes about that the Squire didn't actually die... and now he's in hiding with a band of smugglers. Oy the drama! There's a kidnapping as well. Good times ;)… (plus d'informations)
