When I bought this book, it was because I was chosen to read the ARC for the 2nd book Blood Torn. I wanted to have an understanding of the storyline and all that. So, as far as the story itself, good concept. I found having Immortal Families as part of the involvement was a good tie in with the situation that Emma was a part of.

Things were fast paced and it was as if things really didn't register with Emma that she died. That everything she knew was a lie. Yeah, she shed her tears, but then she was quick to move on. No time to really mourn her loses, just jump to the next step. If anything, it felt more descriptive of the motions of loss than the actual feelings that should have been there.

Also, there wasn't really any sharing of the other characters' history to help Emma relate or empathize with her trauma of becoming a vampire. Just "here's some blood. Off you go now." I think that would have at least given her something to work with as she transitioned into this new life of hers.

Overall, there wasn't enough of the raw emotions that should have been there. It would have made everything much more fluid in transitions from one scene to the next. I'm hoping that the next book will be better.

A very light easy read between both the storyline and the characters dialogues.
It felt very rushed and more insta l surface level character development then I’d have liked, I do want to continue on with a sequel to see if maybe it’ll help flesh it out but as just a first in a series it’s mildly lacking in that hook and sink for me.

The author set the bar high in terms of how many challenges she intended to overcome in a twelve month period. I'm not convinced I would have the same drive or commitment, it might have been better to successfully manage one issue at a time, which would make if more realistic for resistant people like me

I enjoyed this because of the vampire involved in it. Being turned into a vampire has its ups and downs, when Emma turns and finds herself in a world she did not know about. This book was entertaining with the vampire lore and found family.
