These essays were written in 1983 (or thereabout) to address a perceived "problem" in the way the Society for Creative Anachronism was working within the Midwest and Great Plains areas. Looking at them from thirty years on, I think that Folo had some good ideas that, against all odds, would find their way into the fabric of the organization.

Sadly for those of us who loved the wild side of this organization, we are much more serious now. As the SCA has aged, it has, like all things as they age, begun to take itself far more seriously. The days of the all-night singing post-revel are gone (and I will miss them greatly), as are most of the real crazies (which may or may not be good -- since I became one of them as my own mental disorder has taken over, I have to believe that it's simply a part of human nature to turn away from things that are just simply too difficult to deal with.)

Folo was prescient.
