One could certainly not accuse the author of being dispassionate about his subject. Wallish openly declares that Laurie Nash is his sporting idol and has nary a critical word for Mr Nash.

There is certainly reason enough for Wallish to rate Laurie Nash highly; Nash, by many accounts was the best Australian rules footballer of all time as well as a criminally underused fast bowler. And we get Nash's story from his youth in Melbourne, his move to Tasmania and his early sporting success, his Test debut, his VFL debut, his respective cricket and footballing careers and everything else.
